Ok so I have a poison nova necro and I run areas without poison resist so how would an expensive deathweb do any better then a blackbogs when the death web has less poison damage and skills for a nova???
Definatley Not overrated . The minus resist is game changing.
I understand that but I’m saying if I only run areas without resist to poison how would it be a upgrade? I already have chars that take out baal easy but I don’t see how death web is any better then black bogs when I only run areas where enemys don’t have resist to poison I would do less nova damage.
If you crunch the numbers even the worse death web increases your total dps by about 10% over the next best possible wand for PN.
When you compare a good DW to what people typically upgrade from it gets closer to 20-25%
When you compare the damage verse medium resistant mobs (like many skellys or bosses) it jumps to about 40%

So Jon your saying even a bad deaths web would still give me more nova damage vs enemys in the pit for example with less skill then a black bogs?
The worst possible death’s web without a socket will increase your damage substantially over black bog. There is no contest. Back of the napkin math puts it probably around 20-40%.
A better comparison would be a +6 white or something. Which the worst possible web still beats.
It’s worth noting that webs, even bad ones, typically are worth high runes. Good ones can go for multiple high runes.
If you’re on PSN i can give you my old +5 white, that should be a good upgrade until you can get a web.

You could do a similar experiment to see the damage boost without owning dweb… Something like use 2 pnb skillers + random gloves vs trang gloves with no skill charm. The increase when using trang glove should be obvious
Or use a damage calculator.
I think your confusion might be about how some mechanics work. + poison damage on black only works on melee/ranged attacks. Not spells. So it adds nothing to poison nova.
Also monsters resistances can go negative (up to 100%). So a monster that resist 0 poison gets hit by a death web with -40 resistance on it takes 40% more damage, provided you aren’t using lower resist. Lower resist complicates the math slightly but the same principal applies.

Well said Jon. I plan a poison necro and I’ve been dying to get a Death’s Web. It’s also worth adding that the chances of a Death’s Web dropping from Hell Baal who has the highest chance of dropping it, even if you are in the range of 300-600% mf, is upwards of 1:40k. So you have a 1 in 40,000+ chance of hopefully having one drop. Hence the insane value of it, the rarity of it is just bonkers.
I got one but but I overpaid as usual and it’s bottom of the barrel d web with a 5 5 poison facet I paid 2 vex. Ist. Pul. I am the king of overpay
