The games multiplayer is so broken without lobbies right now… matchmaking doesnt even support the most basic obvious feature of grouping up with friends prematch and then a lobby leader joining a public game… no way to make a private game and invite friends then make it public… and beating a quest turns the current game into a free roam game instead of making it the next available quest when searched. This is so inexcusably broken at the moment and needs some big changes. Its worse than the diablo 3 auction house in my opinion… they clearly never played a modern game with matchmaking… and switch the default player count to 8 so people don’t have to switch it to 8 every single time when searching… not that you will ever find an 8 player match on console because its basically impossible. I join a public game and none of my friends can join me… i make a private game where i can invite them and the public cant play with us. This is one of the worst game designs in history, especially considering original diablo 2 lobbies is such a basic and easy to use thing… if it aint broke dont fix it and at minimum DONT Delete the original system if the new system doesnt work and is awful. So absolutely disappointed with the god awful state of multiplayer on consoles. We deserve call of duty style matchmaking lobbies and we deserve a game browser like original diablo 2… its so obvious this was completely cheaped out on and it destroys the multiplayer experience that makes diablo 2 a legendary game.
Yes. There was a twitter post with D2R’s executive producer Rob Fergusson stating that they were “definitely looking at it”, talking about the broken state of console multiplayer.

I don’t believe they will do anything. Product is sold and they have their money. This tweet has no value, its like “yeah yeah we will look at it maybe, just shut up already”. I wish blizzard Activision never happend.
Yea they already got our money. I swore to never buy another ATVI product after the disaster thats D3 but I guess they got me again.

Very very well said, my thoughts exactly. I got into Diablo because of Diablo 3 and I always heard how legendary this game was. So when it was to be polished and re-released I instantly took to the opportunity to play it on my PS5. Diablo and Souls are my two favorite franchises. And I’ve been really, really excited for Diablo 4. But I PROMISE you I will not purchase the game if the multiplayer in this game isn’t addressed and fixed. I’ll gladly put all my time and focus on EldenRing instead… There are too many options for joining games. Imo there are too many lobbies being created and not enough consolidation of players. And then once you’re done with a quest it sets the lobby to free roam like you said, so it disbands the party from matchmaking with players trying to search in the act. It’s a mess. Maybe having less options as to what to join, and actually having a mandatory 2 minute search instead of 3 seconds before creating a lobby would help. I’m not sure if there are server side issues or what, but console is a ghost town. It will hurt player numbers if they don’t address it and soon.

Shame on Blizzard… always picked the worst way to complete an easy task. Isn’t it good just to use the same lobby as D2 already had? For us, there’s also an easy way: just don’t buy D4 unless the craps get fixed!
I found this post and I just want to say thank you for bringing these issues Into light…they really are destroying one of the best reasons to play this game with others.

We don’t even get the simplest of fixes, I really hope they wow with the first big update, and it is not some half motivated work just to keep appearances.
We just need a quality of life overhaul, controller schemes for skills, look at the game and create some ideas on how to make this a real console experience.
We’ll see.
