Is bow/Xbow gain damage from strength or dexterity?

Hello,

I wonder, bow need dex and strength to be used. Xbow on the other hand only need strength.

What is the main stat that give damage to bow and Xbow?

Been a while, but I believe dexterity is king with bow/xbow

It’s still dex for crossbows sadly.

To understand why dexterity is the damage stat for bows (other than being because that’s how it’s done in DnD) is that your archer is using precision to deal more damage.

Thanks a lot.

That’s what i thought but it was strange that crossbow only use strength so.

Except in reality, strength is the deciding factor for any weapon, ESPECIALLY bow weaponry. Crossbows from the medieval era were loaded up with anywhere between 500lbs to 1500lbs of resistance on their string mechanism. Most Long Bows used 150-500lbs

Food for thought~

The idea is that for a bow you need extensive training to not just draw the bow, but to hold that draw while you aim and fire. For a crossbow all you need is strength to pull the bolt back and you can aim with no pressure.

Yeah but i talked about diablo 2

Dexterity is precision, if you’re not precise with your crossbow you will not touch

Yeah I don’t really like the idea of dex adding damage either. Make you more accurate sure, but damage should be entirely on strength.

Keep in mind though that the Crossbow has a more sturdy base with increased weight, so strenght is also needed to maintain the aim of it!

That depends on the crossbow in question. Not all of them are bulky heavy things. They were heavily favored in medieval era because they required almost no training and could match longbows in power.

Holding a 150 pound draw while you aim a bow is orders of magnitude harder than lifting a crossbow that weighs maybe 10 pounds.
