Hi guys,
So i am a 41 old school gamer who played alot of Diablo 1 back in the day, somehow missed Diablo 2 at the time, but have played most major arpg’s and crpg’s since Baldurs Gate, so im no noobie lol…
However, maybe its just a more modern thing, but i am finding the inventory space (not the stash) way too small, and i love the game, but having to go back to town literally every 5 mins or so is becoming really tiresome… I mean is it just me…?
How do people deal with having so little inventory space…? lol
Love the game in every other way though of course, its really awesome, but i am finding it hard to play long sessions as by the 20th time i go back town im kinda over it…
I know its new so probs not, but are there any mods yet to fix/help this…?
Thanks for your time and any info… Cheers

Its always been too small.
My advice is…
- Keep your cube in your inventory for extra space.
- Get a belt with a lot of potion slots.
- Make a habit of clearing your inventory before bosses.
- Use SHIFT +click and CTRL + click move stuff quickly.
- Cut down on bad charms.
- Use a stash tab as a dumping spot for items you find so during runs you can toss them in there instead of going to cain and selling each time.

Learn what items are worth something and what items are not.
Don’t pick up items that are not.
Don’t keep a bunch of garbage charms.

I agree. I think charm clean up needs to be a thing. I just went through my inventory. Really, at lvl 58 I have a 1-4 lightning dmg charm?

Hey. If you literally have to go back to town every 5 minutes because your inventory is full, then maybe you’re doing something wrong and it’s not the game’s fault.
Here’s a tip. Most items that drop are useless and you really don’t need to pick up because that would be wasting your time. As you play, you’ll learn what to pick up and what to leave on the ground.
For example. Do you need 20 Tal runes ? No, you don’t. Do you need a cracked scimitar ? Nope. Those are pretty obvious. As you become more familiar with the game, you’ll even be able to tell which rare items, unique items or set items you want to straight up leave on the ground. Do I need Cathan’s Mesh ? For this character, no I don’t. If you’re a new player, keep it up, it gets better with experience.
Me, personally, I never was bothered by the amount of inventory space in Diablo II.

To be honest I don’t even keep those. I don’t start keeping damage charms until probably the end of NM when I actually need it. I don’t see much point in holding a bunch of them when I one shot most monsters without them.
The charms I keep are resistance small charms, one cold small or large charm if I am playing melee and don’t have other source of cold damage. That’s literally all I hold on to for all of Normal and most of NM.
I pick up every last rune I see. Only need a few thousand tal runes to get that zod!

The inventory is intentionally small to make you think about what you pick up and the time you want to spend in town.
Focus on the things of value.
- throwing weapons for $
- Scepters for $
- Wands for $
- Exploding potions for $
- Rares
- Armor sells well from act 2 on
- socketed items you want to stash for runewords
Slow down and pay attention to what sells well and what does not. It will help you figure out what to pick up and what to leave.

Yeah i suppose, its more like how Baldurs Gate was in that respect i guess… I just got so used to be able to grab just about everything in most modern rpg’s i guess i’ve gotten a bit lazy… lol…
On the bright side - i already have over 60,000 gold and im only like level 8 lol…
hey misscheetah any idea when we might be getting patch notes for the release? i have been looking around and can’t find anything and it’s making gearing much harder be cause some mechanics have clearly changed i am not sure what is worth keeping as much any more.
I am pretty sure the inventory is so small because it is a 20 year old game and they had limitations back then, but we can pretend it’s a feature if you want.

I am not pretending. David Brevick, one of the original designers and coders talked about it.
Finally, on the subject of separate space for charms in the inventory, which has been one of the requests from players, he clarifies why they take up large chunks of space in your inventory and why they never added extra slot spaces.
“Well, a few things: 1) We didn’t think of it. 2) The whole idea behind the design was space vs. power. That was the tradeoff. That was the point. I like how it balances that. In the end, there are few items you want to pick up anyhow. Plus I’m a big anti-inventory-space designer.”

Yeah, that’s a lot of gold for level 8. But what did it cost you ? A lot of time. And it sounds like you didn’t like to go to town every 5 minutes.
To add to that list, rings and amulets are always worth at least 1000 coins, worth checking those in normal.
The modifers for items that tend to be worth money that I look for are % faster cast rate, + to skills, regen life, magic find, etc.
When you start finding elite versions of items they are almost always worth taking. Even a white elite armor with nothing on it at all can sell for 35k in hell.
That is if you are hurting for money at least. I don’t worry about it that much but then I don’t care to gamble often. Usually if it is not something that would be valuable in a trade or that I would want to use personally I just chuck it right back on the floor and move on.

Yes. Inventory space vs charm power is a trade off of convenience for power. It is a choice not many games bother to present these days, and it is one I always enjoyed making. Most games today just give you convenience AND power, no choice needed.

I just did a late spring cleaning on my inventory at lvl 58 barb. I had lvl 5 charms worth crap. Do the same. I have almost a full inventory now.
- Keep your cube in your inventory for extra space.
It should be noted that if you’re playing with a controller, using your cube as inventory space is absolutely awful. The inventory hides the game so you can’t drag and drop an item from the ground to your cube. And when you want to rearrange your cube, you’ll sometimes need to put items on the ground… …which is a big no-no in multiplayer since somebody will probably take them.
What is this Cube people keep referring to…? Have i missed something…?
The Horadric Cube you get in early Act 2.
It’ll get better when you have a good feel for what is “worth picking up”, like 30k+ orbs, vs 1000g shields, etc.
Since gold is so valuable in gambling, I’m glad that there’s a good inventory limit.

The Arreat Summit is the old school website from Blizz for D2. It has a ton of info that still is relevant.
