Insight Runeword on Non-Ladder

I just tried to make an Insight runeword on non-ladder. I have triple checked the runes are correct, but the runeword did not work (could support with screenshots). Hasn’t it been said that ladder runewords will not work on single player and non-ladder? Can anyone provide any clarification on this?

Was it in a spear? It needs to be in a polearm or staff.

Thanks, I’m a moron.

I have the same problem. 4 socket spetum. It’s considered a spear but still didn’t work?

No it doesn’t work on spears, it works on polearm class weapons.

In the future make sure your weapons belong to the Polearms or Staves category (normal/exceptional/elite) and not in the Spears category.

I’ve done this before on legacy D2. I’ve even put the right runes on a polearm and failed before because I didn’t pay attention to ladder expiration date and my previously ladder character was no longer ladder. :man_facepalming:

I made the same mistake too man, happens to the best of us

Alright first I want to make it known that the convert to expansion button is greyed out. But yes my Necro has a shrunken head so that means that the char is already a converted class. Second thing : I was trying to make a rune word weapon called STEEL and I was trying to place the runes in the scimitar and they flat out wouldn’t drop in at all. I’ve no idea what the reason might be. Yes the sword was a grey item. Runes Tir + EL.

Is the scimitar in your shared stash by any chance? I’ve ran into where it wont let you socket things in the shared stash, but you can once you move the base item to your inventory.

Well you were right ! As soon as I moved it the inventory , the runes dropped right in . But now the problem everyone else has been complaining about . TIR / EL should have created STEEL but instead the only thing that happened was the stats offer by the runes themselves. So back to rune issues again .

I was able to make a steel so that RW is definitely active/possible.

The only other things I can thing of would be:

  1. Ensure it’s really a natively socketed, grey item (not a magic with the “mechanics” prefix that gives it sockets)
  2. Ensure that it has exactly 2 sockets. The RW won’t work if you have more than 2 sockets and insert 2 runes. The number of sockets on the item must exactly match the RW requirements.
  3. Ensure that you definitely inserted the runes in the correct order - TIR then EL vs. doing EL then TIR by mistake.
  4. Ensure that the item is a sword, axe, or mace. The game gets tricky with mace vs. hammer, so some things that seem like they should be a mace, is actually a hammer, and the RW won’t work. For instance, steel cannot be made in a scepter.

If you’ve checked all of the above then I’m out of ideas, but if you’re able to post a screen shot it might be helpful.

My friend today just created “Insight” runeword on HC. How come he can make that runeword when there isn’t ladder yet on HC? Am i missing something? Please kindly advise.

Thank you.

There are no ladder-only runewords in D2:R, everything is available in non-ladder play.
