I got an insight for my mercenary and I’m really enjoying the meditation. I never run out of mana even when casting multiple frozen orbs and firewall. Thanks to everyone who recommended that I get one!

Where can you get a prayer merc?
Normal/Hell difficulty “Combat” Act 2 mercenary.
(Make sure you take the items off of your current merc before switching!)

So the healer merc heals you using his own mana?
Yep, his aura will heal both you and him over time. He doesn’t have mana, but the aura works indefinitely.
A high level prayer merc will fully heal from a sliver in ~20 seconds instead of ~80 seconds.
Okay maybe I will try it! Thanks! And of course I will remember to remove my merc gear before hiring a new merc. I’ve read bad stories about that happening.

I would recommend holy freeze over prayer.
By hell mode prayer doesn’t heal nearly enough to be worth or even NM mode and holy freeze can enable your Merc to last longer due to it’s freeze effect and due to the mechanics behind holy freeze, it even Slows down those that are “cold immune.”

I too would prefer Holy Freeze Merc (a2 nm). It will slow down anything including cold immune packs. When you’re facing minions that are extra fast this is huge.
Good advice for a sorc, but if OP ever decides to run a necro with it, HF is not the best option until late NM/early Hell. You can’t use CE on a cold-shattered enemy, since it leaves no corpse. Later in the game this isn’t as much of an issue, but killing enemies with cold damage can really limit a necro’s ammo supply.

i agree shattering monsters is annoying for a nec but from my experience this seems to only rarely happen with holy freeze.

just tested on my druid with hf merc, out of that mob only 1 shattered, rest have bodies :o
yep very true, my summon nec’s merc is using obedience and it has cold damage so sometimes, he shatters the corpse, it’s really frustrating when you’re trying to gather your army.

Yeah I use the socket quest on a polearm for insight instead of a sword for spirit. It’s that important to me.
Unless you for some reason not using teleport on sorc, then prayer merc is the way. I don’t even see how is that comparable. Only reason I can see to use HF merc is if you are struggling in some particular fight(and as a sorc you really shouldn’t) after which you should switch to prayer anyway. the difference is like switching from Bus to your own car.
Prayer merc heals too slowly even in higher levels. Why not just chug a potion? Holy Freeze is always useful if you don’t need Might.
Prayer merc is imo best QoL sorc can get, only beaten by Insight.
Funny thing is I addressed this exact thing in another post, just before moment and only after that I seen your post
Maybe I should give Prayer another chance. There’s no longer a penalty for hiring one in hell I think.
Hire from Normal and if you try it you will probably like it.
