Giant essay on resists, and how they don’t do anything once you get this ONE piece of gear … Why not just take out hard resists instead of requiring this piece of equipment for every single elemental user in the game? HELLO TROLLS 20 YEARS IN THE PAST, BRING IT ON.
Even 20 years ago I agreed with this, I have always thought it would be more freeing to the player to have them be ‘resistant’ IE take less damage from rather than hard immunities, its far to limiting.
And while yes, it does give purpose to certain… specific, niche runewords, its not only giving it purpose but its giving it importance.
And yes, you could play a hybrid build but, why do I need to gimp myself to do something that wasn’t fun to begin with 20 years ago, If I want to play a pure element build (sorceress) why should I be forced to skip 80% of the game.
One of blizzards best characters once said.
“Times Change”
A statement they clearly do not believe lol.
Ya farming hell with Javazon running into maps filled with physical/lightning immunes sure makes your day right. Needing ber runes for infinity is beyond stupid to counter this.
And once your merc has the runeword, the game loses most of its charm in the PVM and becomes a babysitter sim spamming pots to keep your merc alive so you can trudge your way through a terrible system design.
Immunities is and always has been a terrible idea. Should be up to 90% resistance instead (with no ways to reduce resistances).
That said, it is also a huge part of D2, and it would be wrong to change it imo.
Hello lazy, bad player of the present… You clearly want the game easier instead of the work it takes to actually obtain an Infinity (SSP anyways)
I hardly ever even use infinity, but I don’t think it’s even necessary for the most part, it’s more of an endgame luxury than anything (which I’m 100% okay with). I see no problem with immunities, that’s part of Hell. Sorry for my opinion.
Hammer paladins exist and don’t have to deal with this b.s. anything else?
Majorly off-topic but OK, yes Hadins are the best once you can get one up to speed with Nigma or a Tele staff.
I cleared Hell on my sorc Solo without Infinity.
You can do it too. Don’t just put all your points in one skill tree.
Hell mode is supposed to be hard.
Assassin can do Lightning, Fire, and Physical with her natural synergies.
It is not required at all. Played different sorceress a lot, never get a rune higher than Lo.
it’s diablo 2 you can skip most immunities aside from sometimes in chaos and sometimes ancients. but even then you can easily reroll ancients or just have a good merc
A lot of strong classes/builds exist, not sure your point, sorry.
i’ve cleared hell solo with two blizz sorcs since the game came out. you can skip/run by most immunities. just need a good merc for the required ones
elemental immunity was meant to incentivize group play
Shame this game doesn’t promote group play at all with ffa loot hence why people are going solo.
Wait let me get this right, you want them to make the game easier for low end geared players and harder for high end geared players?
That makes no sense.
in the year 2000, group play was both competitive and cooperative. the current video game industry is just psychological tricks to make you think you’re always winning.
But why not just have the monsters be resistant to an element instead of full on immunities? It never made sense to me. They weren’t there when D2 first came out either. They most likely added them to deter bots and encourage group play.
