I know most are playing sorceress, but for those that are playing other builds, is infinity effective while using a Sunder charm to break immunes? I read that conviction has been nerfed to 1/5th of its normal state, So after selling and having your left kidney removed for the purchase of two BER runes, it is only 17% effective compared to 85% of its normal state. This does not seem logical to me for the most expensive item in D2R. So, did I misread something or is Infinity dead in the water as 17% is really not worth 2 BER’s in my book. Please let me know as I really would like to try a build out other than Sorceress. Thank you
Infinity works just as it did b4.
I am running a fire based build with a fire sunder charm. I have the charm and another -20% enemy fire resistance. So yhat leavess an immune at 75 fire resist. I can kill anyyhing in the game with fire now.
The purpose of the sunder charms is that you can kill any monster with a single elment not just everthing. It takes twices as long as using a second element. But it lets you have a more focus single element build
Infinity is far from most expensive item.
The 17% only hit on sundered mobs, so every non immune mob still has -85% res. Also -17 from merc as additional reduction is still a lot as you have limited options to get -res on gear without gimping your build.
Infinity got a little buff like every other -res gear with the charms. You still want the same combination, but they are more effective with the charms.
It’s not the most expensive item in D2r.
And it work like it did before (when it was always seen as one of the best items in the game).
Yes it only does 1/5th against sundered enemies, but it also did that before Sunder Charms existed, it then however started at whatever the resistance of the enemy had.
So is it worth it?
Was it worth it to you before? Than it’s certainly worth it afterwards.
Before you couldn’t easily break immunities without infinity and being lightning build.
Now you have all immunities broken with the appropriate sunder charm.
If the monster was immune, infinity will lower them 17%, or 3-4 facets worth.
If the monster wasn’t immune, infinity will lower them the 85%. Still amazing for non cold sorc builds.
Infinity just isn’t as perceived mandatory as it used to be because sunders exist. It’s still just as good at making monsters killable as it always was.
Infinity lost value in not being needed to break immunities (imo it’s primary value). It retained all its value in damage output.
If you have nothing else to make, make infinity. Otherwise make other stuff.
Thak you, that is good info, but do you use Infinity with -20% fire res?
I’m running a fire sorc with 2x Facets, Flickering Flame, and Phoenix (5 + 5 + 15 + 28 for 53% res reduction). Since a lot of mobs in Hell have 30%+ fire res, I do use Infinity for an additional -17% fire res on immunes (-70% total) and -85% to non-immunes (-138% total). This puts an immune at 25% res and non-immunes around -50% to -100% resist.
Infinity is not necessary, but it certainly provides a notable damage boost. Without it, immunes would have 42% resist meaning I’m dealing 58% of my damage. With it, I’m doing 75% damage, which means I’m dealing ~30% more damage to an immune relatively speaking. In practice, that leads to 1-2 fireballs needed to kill on P1 instead of 2-3.
Thanks for the input everyone. I have tried it and I am kind of lost as to the benefits of Sunders, with the exception to the sorceress. I was running a Javazon non-season, and wanted to try Jav again this season after how sweet the Blizz Sorceress was with the sunder charm. I have tried the javazon with a -70% res Sunder AND Infinity, and the only difference I find in game play is that I am an additional -70% restricted to lightning damage and ther fore have to use my limited onboard stash for Light res charms instead of skillers. This to me is going backwards, not forwards for all classes. I think that the ONLY class worth playing with sunders is the sorceress due to her cold mastery. I personally believe that they should not have nerfed the conviction on infinity or its add ons.
This season, I have went with 3 classes completing Hell:
First Class - Assassin due to her dual elemental damage that can easily wield through hell without worrying about immunes due to her dual elemental damage. This allowed me to get the sunders for other classes.
Second Class - Sorceress, and I love this class this ladder season
Third class - javazon, which was not much different other than a lot less poweerful due to using thunderstroke instead of ‘Titans revenge’, and not being able to use skiller
If you don’t have any -res gear like rainbow facets, sunder charms are not really worth it to equip. Sunder will only remove the immunity and put the resist to 95%. This is still virtually immune to your damage. It will actually hinder you when you try to hit the mob and it does not show you anymore that it is still in fact almost immune.
Infinity will help you there bringing the mob res to 78%, which allows you to kill it, albeit quite slowly.
Rainbow facets were nerfed though as well to 1/5th, were they not? I have only tried facets on the sorceress for CD, not the resistance.
No. They and items like them will be 100% effective.
Nothing has really changed here. Infinity and lower resist curse work 1/5 on immunes like they did b4, only difference is that sunder lowers that bit more breaking the initial immune. Facets work 100% like they did before when infinity (or lower resist) broke the immunity.
Sorc cold mastery always worked like facets, that is why CM still works like facets do. If they’d nerf CM to 1/5, then that’d be the first real change.
