Hey everyone, new to D2 and building up a sorc. Enjoying the game outside the bugs/server issues and looking for some advice.
I’ve been able to trade/farm my way to runes for infinity. I’m wanting to build out a really elite lightning sorc. I currently have an eth 4 soc thresher and eth 4 soc CV. Should I go forward and make the infinity with one of those bases or should I be trying to trade/farm up enhanced damage/eth for giant thresher? A lot of material online debating the bases, and I just dont know if I’d be wasteful crafting it now with what I have or if I should be waiting.
Appreciate any advice.
Thresher and Giant Thresher have the fastest attack speeds, which matters for the crushing blow on Infinity. I know you’re mainly using it for the conviction, but if you want max damage output, I’d go with an eth thresher/giant thresher.
So since I haven an eth 4 soc thresher should I proceed with that or do people wait off for superior (enhanced dmg) eth bases before creating?
Well squeezing that up to 15% extra damage is always great, if you can wait for/afford it.
New Player building second most expensive item? Be honest u bought a ton of fg and bought it all. Regardless. You can wait for those if you can find them. They are super expensive. Honestly the ability on it makes a Lightning sorc so deadly your merc is really only hanging out most the time. If you want to make it more valuable go for it. But even a garbage infinty makes a Lightning sorc amazing. Might take u week or more to find a Ed etb polearm. Last 1 I saw was going for ber rune almost.

Didnt say I was a new player to D2R, just new to D2 in general. I dont know much about the game, but I been playing heavy and farming quite a lot. I dont use d2j or whatever the fg stuff is beyond pricing check. I got lucky with leveling my sorc through and getting an initial Ber rune then traded found items like andy’s, shake, occy, and lower runes to eventually trade a vex/lo/ohm for another ber.
Currently my sorc is full tals and farms countess, ancient tuns, trav, meph, cows then reset. I just dont know much about true endgame in this game and been mostly building rune wealth to get to the main ticket items like infinity/maybe enigma/hoto. Still researching what exactly the gear setup needs to be.
Appreciate the advice though from everyone, I think I’ll go ahead and create infinity with what I got and make the spec switch.
If you’re making Infinity, which is one of the most expensive merc weaps you can make, you’re going to want an eth superior threasher, no point in putting the most expensive word in a sub-par base. Right now people dont seem to realize that perfect bases for weapons are far rarer than the runes used to make them. I’ve got a 4OS eth superior +14 thresher that back in the day would have fetched multiple HRs. I couldn’t even get an offer on it this last week so it’s sitting in my stash. do NOT make it in a CV for all that’s holy. The only base you should use for Infinity for a merc is thresher or great poleaxe.
I would entertain offers on mine, but , as mentioned above, it’s going to take close to a Ber rune (i’d accept a ber !)
Now that said, there is an exeption to the “get the absolute best base” and that’s ironically armor you intend to wear yourself. For your merc, always eth superior, but for yourself, say you’re making Chains of Honor, you actually DONT want to put it in that superior +15/15 dusk shroud. The repair costs will murder you. over 100k gold per durability point. Instead you actually want to find a perfect defense dusk shroud that’s NOT superior (467 i think?) or a 510+ archon plate NOT superior, and use that insetad. I see too many people save their “hah look at this 14/14 sup AP!” and then they regret it after they make their expensive rune word because they cant afford to wear it, and spend all their time trying to get RAL runes so they can use their armor. Merc armor and weapons dont have the problem with repairs however
Well coming from someone who mained a 97 light sorc… is it smart to put it in sup… yes. Is it needed? Not at all. Like I said. Your merc rarely does much if you have a above decent light sorc. The damage you do is so high you can whipes herds in a 8 party. Most the time the units are dead before your merc reaches them. You would be better to invest in a good fort to make sure his butt don’t die. Full tals is a good filler till u get gg escutas griffins. Escutas is not a must have tho. Lightning sorc is 1 of the most expensive builds fyi . Your off hand with eventually be cta and Phoenix. At least that’s what I ran.
Your damage is probably 15-19k Lightning atm? End build your around 40s
O also know Lightning sorc are typically such a nuke that u die really easy if your not carefull. Glasscannon for real
Thoughts on preferred chest for best setup? Been debating between engima, viper with facet, and COH. Dont have the runes atm, just talking theoretical of what is best to aim for.
I have Eth 4os Thresher and Eth 4os CA waiting but don’t have runes and my light sorcy is lvl1 xD. I havee 3x ECV but they require 200str to ware.
The reason you got High runes for that is because high runes were being DUPED. why in the hell would someone give you a high rune for that now
Just depends on your helm and runeword u choose and what polearm u use. If u use a really strong polearm you will likely need str from something to equip it. Do just makesure u can get that str before u are just setting on a infinty u can’t use lol.
And a eth sup cv still going for hr… if people are spending that much. Alot will just Max value it incase they sell it. If u have 0 plans of selling you likely won’t see a difference to aim for perfection
I meant for the sorc. Merc I’m thinking treachery/andy/infinity combo.
Spare me it’s been awhile. If I remember right it’s a Lightning ormus. Depends on if your going for pure dps. You can give up some damage to be tankier for Coh or tals armor in some combination of tals gear. It’s going to take awhile to get the proper stuff.
Have you got the fcr break point gear ? imo not worth making a lightning sorc unless your at the max fcr breakpoint

It is fun. Till u telyport way to far away because it happens so fast lol.
Yeh its kind of hard to control but you get used to it. Im going to assemble it solo its one of my personal challenges
