In game chat system

Has anyone figured out how to switch between game chat and whisper windows or anything useful or this sytem is just complete garbage

The chat system is garbo AF, but if you hit enter to bring up your chatbox, there is a dropdown menu and it defaults to game. Currently only Game and trade appear there though, unless you get a whisper, which creates another channel.

Part of me wonders if the limitations are due to the classic graphics setting being an option, because it almost feels like they wanted to go for a D3 -like chat system (which probably would have been fine, even good) but also probably would have been a giant pain in the ween to implement with classic graphics. Useless post but whatever bumping an important thread.

I made a thread about this before as well. It would be useful if they implemented:

  • Ability to create your own custom lobby/channels as is available in legacy D2.
  • The option to specifically choose which combination of chats you can see via a filter. This applies to both the lobby/channel along with in-game chat. No more getting yanked out of another chat when someone whispers you.
  • Get rid of the thing where it automatically swaps you to another lobby/channel upon being whispered. Once you join a lobby/channel, your character should remain in there until you decide to leave it. Again, make note of how legacy D2 channels work.
  • Consider adding purpose specific lobby/channels as seen in legacy D2 (Ex. trading, ladder, PvP, class).
  • When hovering your cursor over characters in the lobby/channels it should display the character level and account name. This is another legacy D2 feature that would be beneficial to have. Some additional info such as ladder or non-ladder could be useful as well.
  • Allow players to have account profiles as they do in legacy D2. This is the feature where you right click a character that you see in a channel/lobby and there is a place where the player can include a description and location.
  • When you single click a game on the join list, the game name should automatically be filled into the “Game Name” text bar.
  • Enable the ability to copy/paste game names.
  • Make the lobby/channel and in-game font style closer to what is in legacy D2. The font is very generic and unfitting for the overall look of the UI in the game.

Yeah that’s a long list, but it definitely all needs to be done. It’s crazy how unpolished the lobby/chat system is at launch. Fingers crossed we get some major updates for this.

Yeah, the list did get pretty long haha. I’ve seen a decent number of threads so far regarding the lobby and chat systems. I’m really hoping they eventually rework the current systems to be more like the legacy D2 channel/lobby system. It’s ok if they add some other functionality but the current systems seem too far removed from what worked so well in the original game.

Yeah i really dont care what they do as long as its simple and works properly, what we have now is so clunky and frustrating to use in so many ways
