Please bring back the ability to post text above your Char in game using the “!” proceeded by text. i know its a silly request but for us oldschool d2 players itd be nice.

The one thing that comes to mind with the !message feature was massive in-game spam advertising item selling websites. I’m sure if it came back, the same problem would follow.
If it were to come back, it would need to be heavily restricted, no special characters, only a short message allowed… “This way” for example. Maybe 20 or 30 characters max.
But i dont see chat bots joining games yet in d2r. I dont think adding chat above would entice them… back in classic those bots would join in a1 to spam while we were all in the throne room so i dont think it really mattered.
Indeed their work on the incomplete, buggy, and failed new chat module for this game is still in pre-alpha version. Much left unaccomplished, surely they are hard at work correcting this affront to the title.

Yeah it’d be cool if the “emote” feature returned, IIRC that’s what it was called. It was in the Tech Alpha and Beta and they removed it before launch for some strange reason.
It’s nice because then you could use it as a workaround for the chat bug that they still haven’t fixed in the 15 months since D2R has launched, I’m beginning to think they never will fix them. 
i thought /emote turned your text grey in channels but yeah that would be nice if that was a function aswell.
I agree that’s how I remember it back in the day, however I started playing legacy again online a bit before D2R came out and the bots that were running the runs would spam using the “!” emote functionality throughout the runs.
it was in the alpha and beta clients I tested. If you linked the item in the !chat box, it crashed the game lol.
I remember that was one of the first things I tried on opening day. I wanted to drop something for someone, and tell them only above my head… but yea.
This was a fun feature, hated when bots took over though

honestly the fact “bots abuse it” is no reason to not have anything useful.
blizzard needs to get thier act together with bots
and im not talking bots that play the game… those dont affect ME all.
I care about is getting rid of the freaking spambots… they are 100x more detrimental to this game than the bots that farm.
also we need to stop asia relm playing from logging into NA/eu and vice versa somehow
liike maybe somehow allow Australia because…
the spambots now are worse than they were in 1.10
back then it was just “they joined a game and left”
but we also had tools to deal with them… a blocklist with no limit… and they were mostly lvl 1’s so u could put a level to like lvl 10 a get rid of like 95% of them
and even then they left
now we have them constantly spamming chat so we cant even use chat channels to trade to find people to play with or make freinds.
and it WAS more detrimental than bots in 1.10 were
they are frankly the reason i dont really play d2 much anymore… i got tired of the season about 2 weeks in because of all the bots and having 95% of the dclone walks at 4-5 PST am on asia.
the problem is i cant find people to play with because of chat lobby spambots… so i get bored of playing alone and just log off.
this couple with the fact i cant ask all my friend at once who wants to play. and i cant be bothered to message like 30 people individually and then have that open on a 2nd monitor because the horrific chat port from d3, instead of using the simple and easy /f m.
the game itself is fine… but the multiplayer aspect is gutted because thier lobby, friend system and chat are absolutely horrific
even IN-GAME chat is no longer in the center of the screen
you can’t type while dead. ( you know useful for quests)
you cant type in loading screen… ( which wouldn’t be a problem if the game didn’t have so damn many of them)
its basially just the game itself being good, thier grpahics being absolutely amazing. but thier UI changes ruin it

Bnet Friends is integrated with the D2R chat. Should be able to see everything in game now.
I would prefer “chat” not clogging/littering the screen…
I also think it seems “cartoon-ish”… yes, even for a game.
