So i am thinking about writing short guides how to make changes to your local files so even total begginer can do it, it would be in form of short written guides with pictures for one or few things at the same time. For example how to make loot filter, new cube recipes, skill changes, items changes, merc change, something from every category. I would like to maybe bring more people to modding with it or simply improve game play of people offline so they can easily mod some things on their own without wasting countless of hours to learn about modding or watching hours of content on youtube to understand how to do it.
I am curious if there would be interest in this and if yes, i would like to know what types of changes would people like to see.
I feel like a good instruction manual is an absolute positive. I’ve never been big into modding, but if that rainy day ever comes and I want a little project to do, I’d probably come back here to read whatever info you provided. Also I’d just post it all, because if I was to ever mod I’d want to do all of the things you mentioned.
Sign me up! I would definitely fall into this category, and I would greatly appreciate such a guide.
I’m not sure what can be easily done, so I am not sure what to request. What program would be needed to make these edits?
I used a hex editor a tiny bit… about 25 years ago. The only file editing I have personally bothered with since has been with Civilization 5. They made it super easy to mess with a bunch of stuff with just a document editor (notepad is what I mainly used there).
For .txt edits is used afj sheet, json files you need visual studio for that. Nothing complicated. Some other graphical stuff require other thing.
Nothing hard with following guide.
Well try me, ask what you had in mind and i will tell you how possible is it plenty of things can be changed, graphic stuff is harder. Some thing are sadly impossible as hardcoded stuff. Its not easy to generaly say what can and cannot be done as there isa lot that can be done. Plenty of things isalso not in my power to do
I can probably write first one today for showing item level. You can be my test subject and try it
I was not imagining anything fancy like graphics… I don’t think I would even want to try anything overly complicated like mixing skill effects. The last version of MedianXL I tried had a teleport skill on the wolf druid, something already in the game under the assassin, for instance.
For starters, maybe something very simple like changing the % enhanced damage number on a skill like whirlwind, or the number of skeletons summoned at a specific skill level. What can be done with a .txt file edit, for starters?
Is it possible to eliminate the character only effect from pelts, barb helms, pally shields, zon javas, etc.? If so can we change the character skills from barb helms and pelts to oskills? This is something I would like to do myself when modding the game. I’ve heard Laz wanted to get rid of the character only from all the items he wants to include in Brotherhood. That would be ideal to what I would like to play out of a D2R mod.
