Used to play a long time ago but the finer points have become lost on me, I’ve looked through forums and guides I keep getting conflicting info.
Already SCREWED my Lazuruk socket quest on some dumb stuff out of complete ignorance at the time. So no need to get a white sword from normal cows and socket it. I know that’s an option, but it’s one I don’t have on current character. I also know I can speedrun someone to the socket quest in act 5, but idk if anyone on my friends list is trying to do that as they be doing other stuff for their toons.
So real question is this, should I keep farming normal cows and wait for a 4os drop or is it more prudent time-wise to push into NM and wait for it to drop in act 1-4? Like which chance is higher? Idc if it’s crystal/long/broad just need one for spirit on my summonmancer.
got my first pole 4s on nightmare act one… i would waste the quest socket unless its for a god item…
That or just get a character rushed to A5 socket quest, a lot of people like me look for things like that to break up the MF grind. I’d do it for you this evening.
NEVER rush someone else to socket something for you – you’ll hand them the item and then what? It goes poof :P. Better to trade rushes or just get a rush on a disposable character.

If you get a CRYSTAL SWORD from normal cows it should have 4 sockets. This is because items have a hidden property call treasure class that determines how many sockets it can have. Normal cows happen to drop a treasure class on crystal swords that give them 4 OS.
(Note the item level must be 40 or below, if it says 41 it will get 6 Os)
The reason Normal cows white crystal swords will have 4 os is because normal cows are level 28 so the swords they drop are below level 40. It MUST be lvl 40 or below.
Dont feel bad about using larzuk. Just make another character for the quest in normal and you can do it as much as you need. Larzuk rewards are not something you need to fret over losing or messing up. At the end of the day its cheap to get a rush to act 5 norm and the first quest. it takes me under 15 mins to rush someone that far.

Just play… it will come eventually. better than grind mindlessly.
If I choose Cows I know I will have to do from 10 - 20 to get what I want.
Everything in D2 is farming for hours over and over if you want gg items.
you’ll regret using your socket quests for a sword when you finally find a shako or something. i’d wait to um rune or ptopaz a shako instead of instant gratification of a mid tier item like spirit.
I dont get this? Regret what? The worst he’ll have to do is rush a character in norm to larzuk which takes less than 15 mins. Socket the shako then delete that character. Larzuk can be done easily hundreds of times.
Just move on an play. I have found all my spirt swords and Insight polearms by just killing things. I also value the Laz quest too much to waste it on something that regularly drops. That quest will be used to socket unique items like the Homu so I can add more resists to it.
that’s a huge hassle just for a 4 socket sword, an unknown roll on a runeword and a weapon you won’t even use forever lol

Spirit can easily take you into the 90’s. Its not end game but if you dont find an Occulas, death fathom or make a Hoto its a clear winner on top of being cheap to make. Hell yeah its worth getting a spirit sword as soon as possible. You wont find anything better until youre farming hell meph a couple hundred times and even then, youll want a spirit for that.

Also let’s not forget it’s good for a lot of classes so you can pass it on to your next character when your main has the weapon of their dreams. My 31 Spirit sword has had 3 users already.

I find 4 socket swords in cows all the time. I would save your Larzuk quest for something that is a little more rare.
Don’t just look for Crystal Swords. Broad Swords are also very common and just as viable.
Exactly. I’m running stealth right now and have a +1 wand and +2 amulet some extra gear would be welcome and make finding the better gear in higher levels that much easier. As Cryptrot said, I’m planning on a sorc next so I can just transition that to her and not have to go through this twice.
