IK Maul sockets

So, I haven’t had much luck with high end runes, and the best build I could put together for farming Hell is an IK WW Barb. I know that IAS only counts on the weapon when using WW.

For the IK maul, should I just slot a few shaels into it or 2 jewels with 15% IAS? I know people are going to say to go for a 40% ED, 15% IAS jewel, but I haven’t even found a single jewel that has IAS and ED on it, let alone a 40/15.

Does anyone think I could get a cheaper jewel like 35/15 or even 30/15?
For that matter, does the ED on an IK maul really matter that much considering most of the damage comes from all the elemental damage?

I see guides that suggest just putting ED jewels all over the place (helm, chest), but I was thinking of using topaz in the helm to add some magic find.

Thoughts? I know I only have one shot at getting my sockets right, so do I just hold off until I can eventually find some IAS/ED jewels, or is the ED even worth it?

If you use WW then you need to add 30% IAS to the maul to reach the last break point and maximize hits. Full stop. This will increase damage more than anything else you can get.

How you get the 30% IAS is up to you. 2x Shael is the cost effective route. Using 2x jewels with 15% each and some bonus to damage is even better, but those jewels will cost you.

Not true at all. You can always use a hel rune + scroll of tp + item in the cube to remove socket items (but the socketed jewels/gems/runes will be destroyed). In this way you can experiment with what you like. 2x shaels isn’t a bad choice

I wouldn’t overthink this. I added 2 shaels on mine as a cheap option. Not so long after I started farming I get so many IK Mauls I drop em in the free games. If I ever want to optimize and socket different stuff, I’d just wait till the next maul drops…
