Hypothetical scenario
If Microsoft was to sell the Diablo 2 rights, how much do you think it would cost?
Just D2
Let’s say you get in a duel game and the guy is Elon musk and he bets you that he will buy you Diablo 2 if you beat him, so you beat him since it’s really him playing and not his Smurf-employee
And you realize that when he said that he will buy you Diablo 2, you though it was a game copy, but he meant the IP itself
How much will he pay for losing that duel?
D2 is available privately everywhere and in countless different varieties. You too could make your own version of D2, or simply use an existing D2 patch and privately host it. There’s no point in ever selling it, for Microsoft or for players.
They better not sell the game. I was in a “expansion camp” but many people are right that expansion or game being aquired by other studio has a lot of chance of being ruined.
lol all the non-answer so far reminds me the studies on dealing with abstract scenarios
Why Do Some Children Struggle with Abstract Thinking?
There are several reasons why a child may have difficulty with abstract thinking. Some common factors include:
Developmental Delays: Children with developmental delays or disorders like ADHD, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), or intellectual disabilities may find it harder to develop abstract thinking skills.
Learning Disabilities: Conditions such as dyslexia or non-verbal learning disorder can impact a child’s ability to process abstract information.
Language Delays:child’s ability to understand and express abstract ideas often correlates with their language development. Speech and language delays can hinder this growth.
my rambling apart… if you’d read my message with caution you’d noticed i answered your question:
it would cost “a lot” that is a volume non precise amount determination as per english class…
the true question is however not howmuch would it cost, but rather would M$ be willing to sell at all…

Not a lot. It’s not making them much money if any at all at the moment. They would basically have to make an expansion to make the purchase worth anything. Most companies aren’t going to consider that having a lot of value.
it’d respectfully disagree…
if there is a way to recoup the huge expenses from Blizz-activision takeover, by selling some useless leftover side content IPs (at least in M$ eyes it is) then if M$ decides to do that “at all” they wouldn’t sell it cheaply, since they’re interested first and foremost in making money and if they can milk someone dry they’re likely going to do it, and on second thought it’s sort of a point of honor not to sell cheaply parts of what they aquired for the highest fee in the world as it goes for the gaming industry finaces…
They would want a lot no doubt. My thought is nobody would pay unless it was cheap. They would still make money though. They would just get a lump sum and no longer have to pay to run/maintain the servers.
If they were to sell, they would sell the whole Diablo franchise, not just an iteration of the franchise.
they won’t sell diablo as a whole franchise D4 and Immortal are good ca$h cows, it is unlikely M$ resigns from that…
on the side note to
@all
Whoom did my initial post hurt that flagged it as inapropriate?!
Which is why they won’t sell the Diablo franchise.
Imagine the number of pages of binding agreements the would be purchaser would have to agree to in order to purchase just Diablo 2, which would tie their hands from expanding on and profiting from the game. The purchaser would likely be spending money buying Diablo 2 just to end up spending more money just to maintain it. AKA a huge financial mistake for the buyer, and the players of the game would suffer even more than they do now when the buyers funds run dry.
Still nobody even tried to answer the question, only people that try to sound the smartest

Haha your total unhinged derailment isn’t there anymore haha
I didn’t but i wish I had
The issue is : all the implied assumptions in your post are wrong.
Such a sale can’t possibly happen because the value Diablo 2 on its own is worth to Blizzard is more than the value that a third party would get out of it.
Diablo 2 has an extremely high value to Blizzard because giving it away would risk strongly diminishing the value of Diablo 4 and Diablo Immortal, and any future increments in the franchise. That’s likely hundreds of millions, if not even a billion. They wouldn’t sell it for less than that.
On its own, though, Diablo 2 isn’t worth that much maybe a few hundreds of thousands, a million at most. Nobody would buy it for more.
Such a fundamental disparity in value makes such a trade infeasible. Choose whichever constraint you are willing to waive away, and you will have the answer to your question.
As for the Musk hypothetical, I can guarantee you that he would never pay anything for losing that duel. Or rather, not for fulfilling his bet. He would rather pay twice as much in legal fees or other alternative means in order not to have to give anything to the person who beat him. He’d more likely buy the game to perma-ban you from the game, remove the logs of his defeat and your discussion from the servers, and then make some devs give him specifically an edge in the game. That’s way more coherent with his previous actions on Twitter.
The people on this forums in ability to deal with hypothetical is astonishing
Might be the reason why they are so purists
Incapable of dealing with the possibility that they are wrong and that improvements could indeed make the game better and prevent its rapid decay
Your mod needs work, get back to it.
yet at the same time where you point out ppl thinking they couldn’t be wrong you fall in the exact same rabbit hole, though claiming you’re different
