Sometime the game just lags and I don’t know if it’s my internet or the BLIZZARD server. For example there are times when I activate a portal and nothing happens so I click a few times just to see 3 portals generated in succession a second later. This can be deadly if I teleport and nothing happens, click again and then the server catches up and my Sorc overshoots. Anyway that’s what happen today at Pindle when I almost got to the door way and teleport stopped working and my Sorc was standing there so I clicked again just to see it dead in the middle of the pack a second later. So I tried to retrieve the body naked of course with zero FCR and with the delay ended badly about 8 freak times. If I had decided to give up after the second time or whatever do I lose all my gear?
I believe if you die multiple times naked you are ok. However if you equip any items after dying I think you will only be given back the items of the last corpse that has died when you restart a game thus losing the items from the original corpse. So never equip any items after dying until you retrieve your original corpse either by running back or starting a new game.
To clarify, you can die multiple times and still get your gear back as long as you don’t equip anything after your original death. Be aware that there are penalties for death (gold and exp) that vary by difficulty so it might be beneficial to just restart your game versus dying more than once
Edit- apparently it’s the corpse with items totaling the highest gold value that is retained when there are more than one with items. Also if you have more than 15 corpses your items will be dropped by your corpse on the ground. Source = google.
Thanks. I wasn’t sure and knew the game will only save one body and didn’t know exactly what that meant. I did lose all my progress at level 87.
Ouch, the same happened to me many years ago. I eventually just got into the habit of restarting any game I die in. Make sure you read my late edit which I believe is accurate info.
When I am not playing hardcore, I just exit the game. Gold is easy and unless you are in your 90s the xp is negligible. Its so easy to lose all your gear by corpse running.
Yeah I was cocky and the truth of the matter was i thought I could just kill all the zombies outside and walk right in to retrieve the body but realise too late the zombies were all cold immune! My cold sorc without any gear was sitting duck. LOL
Ah yes monster immunities have humbled us all at one time or another.
I always teleport pass them and never noticed.
you keep the corpse with the highest gold value on it. As long as you don’t equip items and die again, you won’t lose anything except for the xp and gold.
If you have more than 1 equipped corpse, the one with the higher gold value is transportet to the next game.
