Idea for Quest implementation: Defend the Fortress Quest

I was thinking, why does players only have to go out to kill monsters?

Why not monsters invade the fortress in act 5 where Baal minions invade to the entrance of act 5 as a quest when it can be played over and over?

Quest reward can be receiving experiences based on the survival time duration of the invasion.

Monsters can range from elemental res to physical res forcing players to go hybrid on their skills or have a great collaboration with other players to beat.

Maybe lazark can stand by the entrance for repair, arrow stocks, or even buy several npc mercenaries to defend with you?

I think there can be alot of potential without adding new map concept.
It may seem like a rift quest from D3, but a little different of having to survive a hoard of monsters and making creative strategies to defend against the invasion.

Where would they be coming from? The Blood Moore? There are already many barbarians “holding back the terrors of hell” in the blood moore. But here, the city would be overrun. It would take a lot of work to set up the waves, not to mention, the monster AI would have to be changed entirely to fit the scenario. It’s a cool idea, but personally, I think it would be easier to just make maps. I don’t think map creation is all that hard. But coding the monster AI seems like it would be very hard.

In World Stone, Baal minions get summoned. The same concept goes for quantity of monsters.

For example you can talk to Lazark or other npc to start the quest in act 5. The description in the quest section will guide you to defend the gates of act 5 town. Once you get there, monster minions get summoned from the distance 1 or 1.5 screen away charging toward the town or even come out from a red portal.

The monster AI is basically going from point A to point B with execution command of hitting players. If they reach into town by passing the gate the quest fails automatically.

It’s pretty simple mechanic that can be programmed with no much investment w/ copy and paste previous lines of code and addition of type of monsters and quantity with execution command on quest.

I got one, defend Chaos Sanctuary from those pesky power lvlers! I once made a lvl 49 holy freeze auradin named Diablo_Defender for this task. He ended up doing excellent dmg,
13k - 13k melee and 1500 pulse dmg. Make your own fun!

that’s just it though, monsters don’t go from point a to point b.

Did you know if you wanted to, you could kill ALL monsters off screen, and never even see them? All you would see is the loot that would drop.

It’s one of the safer ways to play HC on a starter character. Trapsin and Necro are the safest classes in the game.

They don’t chase after you from off screen. The blood more also has a bunch of nooks and crannies.

TBH I don’t really know how hard it would be. I can’t code.

I just feel like creating AI would be harder than just laying out maps.

I could be wrong. I guess there’s more to it than just making the map itself. You’d have to consider how many variations it should have and what monsters go in it.

shrug.

So directing monsters to go from point A to point B is not difficult to code because the game itself it made from their own game engine.

If you take a closer look at (npc act5 barb mercenaries), you can see them moving up toward the fridge while fighting the monsters; some die and some keep moving forward. It’s the same mechanic that can be used on monsters.

Definitely the monsters can be killed off screen. That’s why the game should summon stronger monsters that have massive life and res so that it’s difficult to kill as the level progresses harder which is the point where it gives more purpose for an end game.

They could make new a map too but the current map is already there like a canvas, and tbh the front Gate of Act 5 fortress is beautifully designed yet it’s just not utilized enough.

With some creativity and design, it can branch new ways to strategize gear and skill points.

blood more was actually the most popular run when the game first came out. Everyone was a noob, and it was easy for the experience. That’s where I found my first Vex. Like, a week into the game lol. I didn’t even know what I had. The blood moore runs lasted quite a while into the game. It is a cool zone.

IDK how hard it would be. You could be right about the barbarians though. And just using their AI for monsters.

Like I said, I’m not against it. it’s a cool idea. but I would rather have maps. personally speaking.

What if Sescheron was in the game?
The cutscene in LoD is the GOAT.

I shall take your position…into consideration.

Vex in blood more? oh wow. I never picked up any runes higher than an um xD

Sescheron is actually a great idea.
It could be the newly introduced npc for the quest… That will be epic man.

The cutscene in Lod is such an iconic scene. The way baal signals monsters to charge toward him… Goosebumps.

damn that’s unlucky! They increased the rune drops awhile back, i think in 1.13. HRs are much more common nowadays. I found 2 Mal just going through the game in NM. I haven’t been playing much. I guess I’m waiting for next season.
