That was the first thing I noticed when playing D2R. I want this feature back too.

Yes, one item of the long list of abject failures associated with the new chat system that is completely inferior to the decades old original.

Please, FIX CHAT! has been asked since the tech alpha where it was ticketed. Though the overhead chat actually functioned in the alpha afaik…

the game actually supports !text
it was in the beta, along with an option to disable chat filter.

blizzard removed both of these on launch.

Someone in the BH Discord said it was allegedly removed because it caused crashes and Blizz didn’t want to fix it, dunno if it’s true or not so take that with a grain of salt.

But yeah I miss overhead text and well, the chat actually working for that matter.

I always loved the feature as well. I will say that when I got back into legacy D2 LoD about a year before D2R was announced, I noticed a lot of the bots running Baal games would have massive sales ads loaded into the !chat so that might be their motivation for removing it?

idk, i think it would be better than spamming the gamechat. i think they removed it probs like DarkMaster said that its causing crashes and we can direct message ppl via client messenger anyway. It was nice tho to chat secrectly without whispering ingame^^

Thats interesting. If it worked in Beta and was removed for release, you could say it was added in beta in order to avoid people complaining beforehand.

this was actually my assumption.

but its also possible that because they removed our ability to turn off their stupid filter. that somehow !text wouldn’t be filtered?

idk both decisions were stupid.

it certainly feels like they had it in beta so beta wouldn’t show a huge outcry against removing it.

Blizzard doing something to fight botting or RMT? No, I find that incredibly hard to believe :rage:

Nah, they even profit from them.
