Bought the game shortly after it launched, played a little, didn’t grab my attention and I later uninstalled. Recently I thought about trying it out again, but I can’t install, and says"Buy Now", but I even still have the purchase in my battle.net purchase history. I assume it’s a bug of some sort.
As long as you are logging into this battle.net account in the desktop app you should have access to install and play Diablo II: Resurrected.
Double check the email you are using to log into the desktop application and try changing your password. That should force your account data to update and show that you should have full access to Diablo II: Resurrected. If that does not work then the following should clean up any bad app data:
Let’s manually clear the Battlenet Desktop Application and all supporting data from the system. This will not remove existing game clients.
- Open file explorer/file manager (Right Click Windows Start)
- Navigate to the folder where the desktop application would normally be installed. Delete that folder if it exists (usually program files x86)
- Type the following into the address bar (not the search bar): %APPDATA% and press enter.
- Delete the Bnet and blizzard folders inside the appdata folder if they exist.
- Repeat steps 3 and 4 with %PROGRAMDATA% %LOCALAPPDATA% and %TEMP%
- Empty the recycle bin.
- Now reinstall the app to the C: Drive.
Create a new administrator account: Creating a New Administrator Account - Blizzard Support
Once the account is created, shut down the computer, wait 60 seconds, restart, log into the new profile and try the app/client.
I changed my password, that didn’t work.
I went deleted the battle.net and Blizzard Entertainment folders in program files x86, %APPDATA%, %PROGRAMDATA%, %LOCALAPPDATA%, and %TEMP%, emptied the recycle bin, reinstalled the app, created a new administrator account, and it still hasn’t worked.
Now instead of “Buy Game” it says “Pre-purchase Now”, the Install bar is greyed out, but also says “You Have Purchased This Game” under the Install bar. It also now says Expected Release by 9/23/2021 so that’s a new bit of info.
I have screenshots I took of my BNet client but sadly can’t post them, even without HTML.
I’m not super concerned, but hopefully we can figure this out for anyone else in the future who might face a similar problem.
That is really… Weird.
First thing that comes to mind, is the time and date correct on your system?
You can use the </> button above where you type your post. Paste the link, highlight the link with your mouse, then press the </> button which will result in a similar result as the following example:

Thanks for the tip on the link.

Also yes the time/date is correct on my system, not sure why it’s not for this one game on the app. My account shows I bought the game, and says it’s Active, last date played Dec 7, 2021. When I go to Download Games on the sidebar, it has every game except Diablo II Resurrected available. Even original Diablo II heh.
And to add insult to injury, I decided to try just playing Diablo 2 but it won’t work with Windows 10, qq. Says Error 25, critical error trying to initialize Direct3D.
Another Edit:
Since the D2R window on my app for some reason says it’s expected to release in 2021, I tried changing my system time to before then, then changing back to 2022, didn’t work. Then I changed the time to 2020, closed the client, changed time back to 2022, opened client, still didn’t work. So still no luck getting the game installable, despite it saying I have prepurchased the game, my transaction history showing I bought the game, and my game list in bnet account showing D2R as Active.
Have you checked your BIOS clock? How old/modified is your PC? Sometimes the BIOS clock falters, and when it does you just have to go into your bios screen on start up and verify the date, time, and such is proper. This is also very good indicators of malware or trojan attack. Or a hacked account. Or you have an illegal copy of the game?
Another thing to try, do you have a second computer you can try to install the bnet and game on to see if you have the same results?
Well this is weird, I had a reply to BigPappa and now it’s gone. I don’t know why they would remove it, and not say why. I do have another comp not currently hooked up, could give it a try if I get around to it. Now I’m more concerned why my last comment was removed, all I did was confirm my BIOS clock is accurate, don’t have malware, haven’t been hacked, bought the game through bnet store, and that for some weird reason, D2R is the only game not available to download in the “download games” tab on battle.net account page.
Have you submitted a ticket regarding this issue directly to battle.net support? If you haven’t I would def see if you get more response that way.
