so pardon me if i rant a bit, I’m 66, been playing D2 sense the beginning, never scammed, cheated, or tried to get over on another player.. the last 2 days have sucked, took me ruffly 2 months to collect gems and upgrade them to pgems 200 of them, i posted on discord a price and got a message someone wanted them, met in private game and needless to say , i dropped the gems and they exited without paying “kaysiee” was their name on discord, next day they changed it to KOH … this morning, i like to help rush folks, i have been helped over the years so i like to return the favor….saw a game in norm rush for Ber..well shoot, i have never been lucky on ruins and i had no ber, told the player, ill take you to act 4, then give Ber and then ill take you the rest of the way..all wp’s etc well needless to say we got to act 4 and they exit game without paying warlock named DARK-OBLIVION if you need to scam people in a game, you are a worthless pos…and i think Diablo should delete your account .. smh…. sorry for rant…. OG
Never trade outside trade window no matter what people say to you.
yeah I get where you are coming from. You would think it would be safe to give adults the benefit of the doubt in most cases and not behave like pos’. I could never imagine stealing or scamming someone as an adult lol.
Why do you create same topic again?
I guess the previous one didn’t get any responses… Misery loves company.
@OP - Hopefully lesson learned. Once bitten, twice shy. Fool me once, shame on you; Fool me twice, shame on me. Etc. The tricks of scammers fall flat without gullible people to prey on. Don’t take it too hard, after all it’s just a game. At least you weren’t scammed out of thousands of dollars like many elderly folks have been.
I mean I might be wrong and it was someone else but when I was reading this I was pretty sure I did read it before here, also 200 gems.
i dont post much, so it was not me..
The other post I’m referring that has zero replies to is the one posted 1 day ago in the Trade forum.
Never trust randos online, feel like that’s not something new in D2. People been like “oh hold on lemme make room” and then put a gemmed shako to trade since like 2005
Don’t trade on discord, trade on traderie where you at least have a rep score to back you up, and don’t drop trade with anyone who has any red flags
Also if you’re drop trading and they start grabbing stuff before they dropped theirs, immediately start grabbing it back
ya, i hear you, i have had faith in the community for decades, but alass, not any longer..i had done exactly the same thing many times, never been ripped off…i guess i finally had a lesson learned…ill just either use the items, or sell in town..helping folks, trading with folks is no longer an option
Its sucks to get ripped off. How did you get through the original D2 and never get ripped off? This game is notorious for that. 20 years ago everything was super duped so if you got something in a trade 1/2 the time it just went poof when you logged out. If you are on non-ladder I will give you a ber rune, not out of pity though. You will have to tell me in game that I am “the best”
If there is no punishment for wrongdoing, why are you surprised when wrongdoing occures?
IF we could focus all the forum policing people and their negative energy into a force for good we could turn that mob into the “Trade Police” and whenever someone does something scammy in game we can call the “trade police” on them. Power in numbers!
I feel your pain OP, it sucks to always be on the lookout for scammers. But truthfully, this community is the very one in the late 1990s that first taught me to expect deceit in online gaming.
That said, you can still have fun with the community. Love the public trading aspect in D2R, makes it a more vibrant game. You just have to be wary of literally every stranger until they prove themselves. And, there’s still a lot of good folks out there willing to help out.
I had similiar experience 2 weeks ago. I lost 106 PG. But that was nothing in comparison to what I really lost, the trust of people, same as any scam. When I came back to play this game, a lot of people dropped trades on me and never scammed. So I thought maybe this is the new norm and got used to to do it. Now I cannot do it any more because for all I know it could be the same person behind the screen all along trading with me trying to fish me to that moment when I trade big and had dropped my guard. I actually did remove my accounts out of flustration because I keep seeing people posting the same trades (60 PG for Jah, 100 PG for 2 Jahs) and Blizzard didn’t do anything about it just like Zax said. But I recovered my accounts again and decided to finish what I wanted to do when I first returned to the game few month ago. All I want to say is Blizzard is gonna have a hard time to sell me any other game if they don’t protect their legit players. They could have also added stackable gems/runes on inventory/trade screen on top of stashes, so people don’t have a chance to exploit scams. A well designed trade system, none of these would have happened.
People are shady. Just because you have morals doesn’t mean most people do.
Just look at how desperate they are to crap all over each other over something as trivial as a sports team, or heaven forbid, an opinion IRL or in forums.
Magnify that by 10 ingame D2. FG brings out the worst in people, because RMT is unofficially sanctioned now.
unfortunately you are not allowed to callout scammer here.
i am sorry they took advantage of you.
i will say however that i would have been wary from the start. a ber rune for a rush is not a fair trade and honestly he would have been ripped off if he gave u it
its an overpay by like 4x
if an offer looks too good to be true.. it usually is
If something is too good to be true, it probably isn’t real. A little critical thinking was in order.
Unfortunately, there is a considerably large amount of people who have zero honesty and integrity in life. They will screw someone over for a dollar no matter the cost to the person they are screwing. They thrive on it even more when being anonymous. Sorry that happened to you. Hopefully karma will do irreparable damage to them. I wish the worst things in life on people like that.
People who rush other’s aren’t actually helping.
Playing through the game and levelling naturally is quite fast if you are good at the game.
Its kind of akin to… helping girls wash their car or fix their fence or lift medium heavy things just because they are girls… how very chivalrous but… it prevents them from developing skills and being more self-reliant.
Plus its often annoying when people offer to “help” with something by just doing it for you.
So with that said… you deserved it.
