this is something they haven’t really gone over, and it introduces a issue that was not present in the orginal game
without different server for US west us west, oceanic.
how are we going to sort by this?
will it default to within an 1000 mile radius for ping purposes?
will the “list of games” be restricted into areas of my local server.
how would i change that if im trading? and don’t really care about ping as i will only there in town?
anything over say 80 ping is effectively unplayable because of shared loot and the ABSOLUTE NECESSITY THAT LOOT REMAINS SHARED!
so what UI changes and option will be made to combat this?
i dont want random games from asian and having asian characters i cant read to appear in my search list… i dont need to be talking to people from france and germany in my baal runs.
how is this planning on being addressed with the current “search for a game”
There isn’t any confirmation on this yet, but my guess is that it will be handled like this:
If you create a game it will be hosted on the closest Blizzard server.
The game will only be visible to people who share this server as the closest one, but anyone can join the game by typing in the game name manually.
it also could pose a problem for duplicate game names… like the USA, most of Canada, the UK, and Australia all use “english”, this would dramatically increase the number of duplicate names? maybe it will show “US west” in first of it?
No more region-specific servers. Diablo II: Resurrected will function off global servers so players in the US can play with their friends in the EU.
To put this in perspective, the distance from LA to New York City ~2,400 miles. The distance from LA to Munich Germany is ~6,000 miles. Even if you put the global server halfway between LA and Munich, it would be ~3,000 miles.
I am pretty sure that they will add a search filter.
Type in PvP and all games containing it in the name will be shown.
That would also make ingame trading a lot easier.
i know this is a MASSIVE necro… but its my thread sooo…
i still dont understand how this can work, i dont want Asian games showing up in my game list becuase i dont want to be playing with 300+ ping.
it would be ok to have the “option” to join those games… but i don’t want to see them in my games list, this will also be a big issue with language barriers… i never had to deal with before, and sure EU server always had to deal with it but those of us here in the USA did not…
i mean i like that i have the “option” to trade
but this creates a ton of new issues…
and yeah they can be overcome but,
blizzard really hasn’t said anything about how they are going to do it.
and that leaves me worries that I’m going to sort through what is effectively foreign gibberish to me, because i am not one of those people blessed in the foreign language skills.
the biggest issue with this is frankly the issue of picking up items…
i CANT be playing with more than say 80 ping if i want any chance in hell of grabing a decent item off the floor.
so i have many concerns about his this will affect lag, picking up good items, trading, and the economy.
No, they have not said yet, but the Accessibility update introduced a lot of options to the game.
Including a game creation tab.
We don’t know what it does yet, but it might be something that lets you select how your matchmaking works.
Most Blizzard games match with people regionally close to you, and/or have low lag. The search expands out to farther areas only if there are not enough people locally.
Dragging up some old memories of playing Quake 3:Arena, finding a game was relatively simple… The lowest pinged servers showed up first in the list. Since a low ping in Quake 3:Arena was most desirable, you’d want to join one of the top servers that you see show up.
They could employ a ping threshold based upon your top X games and show you those open games first, then allow you to “show more” which would reveal more, but higher pinged games. Pings are mostly going to be based on the Battle.net server hub instead of the players.
Another approach would be to show only the games based upon your region first, then the ‘show more’ would start showing games from farther regions.
They may even give you an option to select which regions you’d like to show in the game browser list, which IMO is probably the simplest approach.
As MissCheetah said, we’ll just have to wait and see how they plan on handling this.
Edit - Expanding a bit further:
The “Game Creation” tab in the image MissCheetah linked could give the option to set which regions you’d like your games to be visible to.
This is just a theory.
