How will Global servers look like

I believe i can well imagine how will Global season without regions in D2R look like and I would like it share it with you guys and we can discuss about it.

I think situation will be similar to what happened to Overwatch in last patch. There was crossplay introduced and also there was major change how region works and i think they plan to use same model to D2R.

In past we had reagional play in diablo 2 and players were unable to anyhow affect different regions. It was said that D2R will not have regions but what does it exactly mean?

I am pretty certain that there still are regions in play as your location will decide which created games servers you will see. Lets say I will play in Europe, currently Czech republic. In past I could decide to play on Europe server, US(east+West) and asia server. And i could play with players originated from there. I think that will no longer be possible as your server is picked automaticly for you without chance to affect it. Lets say I dont like to play in EU community. In past i could just pick us east and play there. With Global play i will not be able to do that. Why? Because i will see only games created on servers close to me.

I would like to say that this created a lot of negativity from player base in overwatch as players are currently forced to play on servers closer to their region. Diablo works differently as there is not matchmaking but this can still have some negative effect on players who like to pick their server to play on.

I am not saying its bad decision, i am just trying to predict how will it work and how Global server can affect how we play on battle net.

We will ve able to play with anyone on Global server because friend list will be shared on all regions as it was done in ow just recently. So you definitely can play with anyone you decide which is nice. Also I am really curious how will this affect trading because if players will see only games from their region, trade in games will be huge disadvantage. And forum/discord trading will take over, because whole world can see see your trade offer there, not just limited player base to your region.

This migh cause creation of huge trading hub for whole Diablo 2R, i just hope it will not be jsp…

So yeah thats what i wanted to share, feel free to discuss as there is not much interesting going on currently here :slight_smile:

EDIT: It would be really nice if blizzard make button on battle net to see games from other regions.

I dont think so, it was like this in overwatch too, but its gone with Global servers, people cant pick regions anymore, you can still change it in bn app but it does nothing. I have no doubt it will work like that in D2R.

It’ll work like OW does I imagine. Still pick your parent server from launcher but you’ll automatically get put into the best child for your region.

Global server for everyone,means everyone with diferent time zones will play there.If you play as EU player, most NA players will be offline by that time and this will make it hard for you to trade with them.
I hope we can see from what region all players are,because i want to play more with EU players.

But thats the point, its not possible anymore. You cant pick a server. Only way to pick server is to block IPs if other servers. I talk about overwatch but i have no reason to belive d2tlr will be aby different as they want to make it Global also.

I dont think you will even see games created in US if you play from EU because they will be still made on different region.

Just a theory: The game list would populate with the closest ‘preferred’ games first, followed by higher pinged games that are farther away from you.

Diablo 2 is a game that is playable on a higher ~200 ms ping, as long as the ping is stable. After all, the game was originally played by a majority of dial-up players when it was released.

I has to disagree, i used to play at 150 and it wasnt good. I mean its playable but delay is visible and can get you sometime killed.

I played a lot of Quake, Quake 2 and Diablo 2 on crappy dial-up… It was something you had to get used to. The stability of the ping was important. :slight_smile:

I’m not saying it was ideal play by any means, I’m just saying it was playable.

Playing with 200ms+ in Overwatch is downright masochism.

I think Bnet is setup to let you pick your region from their launcher and that’ll be the deciding factor for your D2R server.

Could be wrong.

Not since the last patch. I had to IP block EU servers in firewall to play with players from US.

Not really sure how blocking servers marks off a checklist that magically forces US servers but I’ll take your word for it?

A VPN I could understand but firewalls forces US from EU?

I’ll have to Google this.

VPN will work too for sure. But many people use the IP block method now. If you block 2 EU servers and one on middle east, game will connect you to another server with best ping for you, which is US.

Wow. What the hell Blizz?

It didn’t use to be that complicated. I could play OW in EU instantly with a quick region swap. (Not Asia region though, that client was different?)

A lot of people were suprised by this, i can still choose US server in battle net application but it will connect me to EU anyway. I like that they made servers Global so you can actualy play with people from different region or even platform, but i dont like being forced on certain region to find random games.

I just wanted to share this as global servers for D2R migh work in same way.

Going off what you’re all saying, though at times its difficult to comprehend. Global servers mean it automatically places you into your region. Like Diablo 3 or Warzone for example.

Gone are the days of manually selecting your region and being unlucky folks like us Aussie/NZ players who get shafted with 250-300 ping. Very glad to have learned this, makes me look forward to D2R even more!
