Simply put botters mostly damage the game not by accumulating stuff for themselves but they sell the botted items and ruin the economy.
The solution:
Instead of frequent banwaves as mass punishment which blizz fears tremmendeusly…
How about, causing the flagged accounts to have items bound to account on pickup?
Ppl woud still bot… we can’t stop this, however, when botted items are out of circulation the game economy becomes healthy. And most importantly this would happen instantly, as soon as flagged, ,independantly rather than mass punishment, and most importantly the action would be autonomus, so it would not require bob the janitor to even bat an eyelash, rather than performing account actions on the server, and rebooting it…
What do you guys think…
Is opting out the botters from game’s economy and let them play in return for instant punishmrnt, better than unicorn level of rarity banwaves?
Did you know, all the Diablo titles are under a single product umbrella? This is stifling healthy competition between the games in the series - Diablo Immortal (DI), Diablo 2 (D2), Diablo 3 (D3), and Diablo 4 (D4).
The Diablo Team, responsible for the direction of the Diablo franchise is prioritizing the commercial success of Diablo 4. Their focus is on enhancing D4’s battle pass and cash shop. As a consequence, any innovative or impactful solutions proposed for D2 won’t be considered. D4’s commercial success overshadows any other considerations.
Feel free to share ideas, but keep in mind in the current climate, deep diving is pointless, our proposals are pure forum entertainment.
This unfortunately can make people even more angry. They get the feeling someone is messing with them. This is why it is extremely rare for game mechanics to be modified for cheaters.
A way to balance your idea. For the first 25 runs per day, the items are for trade. After 25 runs, items found become account bound. This way it can be clearly stated and encourages people to farm their own items.
Items being bound on account after one trade would breathe some needed longevity into this game. I’m talking across the board, not just to combat botting. It would significantly reduce “day trading” or “item flipping”. Also if an account were to be compromised, the items going to a different account would prevent profiting from those stolen items. The only exception would be that items can be freely traded between those where the item was found during the same game session.
I know it will never happen, but I think it’s a good idea.
This will not work, even now botters do not hesitate to buy new copies after banwaves. What will stop them to buy one new copy and use remained ones to stack players count? It will be no point in the game without personalized loot.
because the action would be automated and instant the moment warden detects botting, so it won’t be at the end of a season but instantly the person launches a bot.
adding more accounts won’t help as running bots on them would also bind on pickup to that account… the only way to have them unbinded would be to run with legitly playing account to that item and pick it up manually, which at the given pace of bots creating new games is near impossible i think, one would have to sit arount and watch the bot running, which defeats the whole point of botting don’t you think?
this idea sucks, i for example often play for the whole weekend and make more than 25 games daily like over 12 hours per day in weekends.
Yeah I’m aginst restricting free trade both in game and IRL what i do like limited is flooding the market with cheap knock-offs, so that genuine don’t items loose value or in real life terms terms limit the ability of communists who prey on free trade markets from using slave production camps to flood the market with cheap stuff.
While this may seem like a godsend for the legitimate playerbase, instant bans upon detection actually benefits botters, specifically the ones who create the bots… It is a battle for them to find ways to evade detection. Instant bans is instant feedback for them to make their bots better that much quicker.
they would not be banned, only limited to no-trade mode by converting all their items on whole account to bound on pickup… as it wouldn’t be mass punishment but rather per case action i think it would render this harder to be detected by botmakers
There are plenty of self centered manchilds that play this game… Some of them complain about the drop rates being too low… They have kids, they have work, they have a life, they only have an hour per week to play the game, they deserve their shako in the first day or two of playing… These are the same group that spend money on items at RMT item shops.
i play d2r since launch and haven’t found a shako or mara or most of the high end items at all yet…
My best drop was probably laying of hands and a meh buriza, and those were during the christmans bonus mf
Easiest way to kill bots is buff drop rates to /p7 as default and add personal loot so ppl would play and farm together, then add low lvl RW for Staffs with Teleport, then buff melee and make synergies based on elements instead of skills.
No more Nigma, Infi and other high end crap needed for relaxing and fun gameplay.
Being able to find a GG item to trade for things you need is an absolute staple of this game. Super against account bound items, I hate that. I also feel like the personal loot argument is for soft people that have to have what they want.
Bots suck though, and this is an endless circular conversation.
There needs to be a way to report bots / botted games, and have someone investigating the offenders developing new safety measures while taking action. This requires paying people for a job…
Some type of captcha or captcha like puzzles or tests need to be added to the game at random intervals, not always at login. You just have to make it hard enough on the botters to have them start wasting their time. Without having the playerbase waste our time, up till now, Blizz has decided for a much different approach.
I do not expect any more changes going forward. So this is an interesting discussion, but most likely nothing will ever change again. Like the S3 or was it S4 runewords moving to NL. We will be lucky to get a Holiday event again this year
No. CAPTCHAs are useless, they’re easily defeated by automation, and if they aren’t, they will be soon. Some of the ones that aren’t solvable by automation are nearly impossible for humans to solve as well.
Well yeah, however the bind on pickup would be only applied to botters found guilty of: botting…
Bind on pickup wouldn’t be applied to anyone else…
The advantage in fending off botters in my proposal is that it would be automatic, so noone is bothering poor bob-the-janitor, to touch the server agin. On the other hand Your approch would require blizz to hire someone competent 4 the job. And that’s what’s actually unlikely to happen.
D4 ca$h cow is their current attention hog as far as diablo franchise is concerned, so slim chances anything requiring new manhours, is going to be permanently applied to d2r
