How to keep Merc alive on Trav Council!

So i been farm trav with my barb and i dont need my merc, but with sorc my merc almost 99 percent dies once hydras come out.

Anyone putting on fire absorb gear or tips to keep alive. It is getting costly to revive him after that battle.

Level a necro, so many summons around to keep worms occupied that no one cares about merc

Just teleport away from them. Your merc goes with you every time you teleport.

I always locate the well that’s in Trav. I often get cursed with Amplify Damage so I save it for that. Maybe a quick TP to town can help.

My question to this thoigh not sure do better drops come if you kill faster though?

Great suggestions though and def my next toon will be a necro.

Guardian Angel will keep him alive with the 90% fire res - Your choice how to get to the 90% mark after that though.

I’d say for a trav farmer it’s ALMOST a requirement for speeding travi up to be consistent and never having to revive merc.

Edit: Other question: No, things don’t drop based on how quickly you kill stuff whatsoever - But since you’ll be able to do more of them in the same amount of time, you’ll obviously be getting more loot.

Thanks good to know! I may just leave Trav to Barb and when my sorc gets better I wll try again.

Guardian Angel is the way to go. Make sure to pair it with Kira’s Guardian for the nice resists and cannot be frozen. I’d recommend a Reaper’s toll.

A friendly tip - I wouldn’t farm Tav much as a sorc because they’re not as efficient as a WW barb on it. Sorcs (depending on your gear) can be better to farm Andariel/Mephisto/Chaos

Teleport is your friend it will wrangle the merc like the stupid little pug he is. Keep him on a short leash get a decent amount of life leech, some crushing blow/deadly strike helps the more he does in damage the more he leeches.

I simply bug my merc and do a run involving more than just Travincal farming on my sorc. I open up with Pindle with non-bugged merc, then bug the merc. Do Andy, Mephisto, Travincal, Chaos Sanctuary and Halls of Vaught. My merc never dies this way. When I feel like a longer run, I add Ancient Tunnels, Arcane Sanctuary, Baal and Cows to that run. It feels overall less repetitive than just Trav-run, quit, repeat, which usually saps the will to play out of me. If all else fails, on a sorc, repositioning via teleport is a must, but you also need to babysit the merc with potions, which I’m too lazy to do.

Bug Merc sorry i dont know what that means? Fade?

Get your merc stuck behind a door or something, move away from him until he teleports to you after that is done nothing should attack the merc.

I might be wrong its been probably a decade since I used the merc bug but if I remember that is the basics of it

If you lock your merc behind a door and walk far away, he will have to teleport to you at some point and be in a bugged state. Only mages and archers will target him. Melee units ignoring him will greatly improve his survivability. The slight drawback is you become the target and monster will rush your sorc instead, but that’s where teleporting your merc to you (via teleport) and telekinesis to knockback immune to cold monster works really well. I usually bug my merc in the Inner Cloister in act 1. Go to Jail 3, back to Inner cloister and lock your merc by the stairs and go southeast of the waypoint and wait for your merc to TP to you (walk over there, do not teleport). Takes 20s to perform once you get familiar with the technique. Really useful for Cows and CS.

No worries, thanks to you, I took a break while typing and I got War Trav boots on the first mobs I killed, so if it wasn’t for your posts, RNGeesus would not have blessed me with that prize! We all won something.

Success!!! I’m glad brother may the RNG Gods shine on us all!! Thanks for the tips too and explaing merc bugging to me.

That’s the secret, you don’t.

reapers toll, treachery, gface

Kira’s and Guardian angel. The merc won’t die. Hydras are bugged so you need the 90%+ resist on the merc.

The bug works well too, but takes some time off runs.

not sure what level your sorc is but that may be the better idea. my merc can solo the council, but he’s lvl 87 like me and has upper-middle tier gear. obedience runeword in an ethereal thresher for a weapon, duress in a scarab shell armor. tal rasha’s helm for leech. i just let him run in and kill them, and i teleport away and heal him with potions if he gets cursed or starts to take more damage than he can heal from leech
