How to copy single player D2 save to D2R?

Anyone have a good link to a guide on exactly which character save files will need to be copied from the D2 folder to the D2R folder to transfer my single player characters at launch?

Thank you in advance!

While there is no official way yet documented, if it is possible, it should be as simple as copying the character.d2s file into the location where D2:R keeps its character saves.

Edit: Confirmed working in the beta news. My mistake.
Q: Will I be able to load my Diablo II Classic save files into the Early Access or Open Beta?

A: Players will not be able to import local offline saves from the original Diablo II to Diablo II: Resurrected Early Access and Open Beta because this test is online only.
At launch, players will be able to load their local offline saves by copying the save files from the original Diablo II to Diablo II: Resurrected. The underlying game engine is exactly the same, so those local saves will work but they will need to be copied over manually.
However, local save files (whether newly created or copied from Diablo II) will be different from online save files. There are profound differences between the modern Battle.net of today and what we launched with Diablo II all those years ago. To enjoy all of the modern online features, such as friend invites and greater security, players will need to create a new online character.

C:\Users\UserNameHere\Documents\Diablo 2
C:\Users\UserNameHere\Saved Games\Diablo 2
DriveLetterHere:\Directory Game Is In Here\Diablo 2\Saves

One of those three locations your saves will be. I dunno which though~ I have many versions of the game installed, not sure which is which lol. All you need to do is copypasta I’d imagine.

The default directory is C:\Users\Username\Saved Games\Diablo II\

I have one in all three locations based on the patch version I have installed!
It’s legitimately frustrating because Winderps only allows 1 registry entry for a given game so one installation will pull saves from another installation. While unrelated to where saves are kept, it does make keeping track of things more difficult.

The important thing is knowledge of where the charname.d2s/charname.key files that you want are located. As long as you know where they are and D2:R supports importing these files, then everything should work…

Now I would think once the files have been loaded into D2:R, they may not be able to be loaded back into the original game due to the expanded stash/shared stash adding extra data to the files. Original D2 might puke bits all over your screen if you try.

Might get lucky and it may just completely negate the added code like it does with PlugY and act as if it never existed.

True. Who knows what coding wizardry they may use. :stuck_out_tongue:

It is an announced feature, go check out the blizzard announcement about the beta released today. It’s within there!

Oh. My eyeballs decided to skip over that part it seems. Thanks for pointing that out. My eyes will be punished.

Yah they even make basic reference to how to do it. But I haven’t been in my D2 directory in quite a while.

Yeah, for the full release of the game. For open beta: Players will not be able to import local offline saves from the original Diablo II to Diablo II: Resurrected Early Access and Open Beta because this test is online only.

I found this thread helpful. It has V 1.12 and V 1.14 info.

  • (Version 1.12) C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Virtual Store\Program Files (x86)\Diablo II\Save

  • From 1.14 on, they will be in C:/Users/(User name)/Saved Games/Diablo II.

Of course this applies to RELEASE - you can’t do this in Beta.
