How does servers work for D2R?

I see that D2R is a global server - sorry if i got this totally wrong -_-;;

Does battlenet region when launching the game determines what games/players you see on the game?

I launched the game multiple times with different regions (US/Asia) and it seems that I get different pool of players/games. I know this because as a person from Korea I know how they name their characters/games Vs. players in the US.

Thanks

I think what they meant by global is you can bring your character to any server (asia, europe, americas). Not that everyone is playing on the same server.

The game saves are Global and Ladder will be too - but you are not actually all one one single server.

Login goes through your Regional Authentication center then you are put on one of the datacenters attached to it. That is what determines your latency and games list for public games.

You can still chat with, and play with friends anywhere though - but if you join their game and they are 3000 miles away, your latency will increase.

This is only really an issue if you like public games and you are on a quiet datacenter or play at an odd time of day.

So far they have not released any info on exactly what the structure is or what IP addresses to use for WinMTR.

A Diablo 3 example, if it helps.

For Americas Region (which shares the same saves and ladder) in D3 there are 3 datacenters. California, Brazil, and Australia. You are defaulted to the closest one. BUT for D3 you can use a command line argument when launching the game to force it to a diff datacenter so you can have a different selection of public games.

So far no info on if that will be possible in D2R.

Sorry for the resurrection, but any news on this? I connect to Brazilian servers but want to see Californian games.

There are no updates that I know of. I am not aware of any way to select which regional games are shown. It can be done in D3, but so far, not in D2R.

Good Question. In simplest terms all of your data is sent directly into a potato somewhere in Antarctica (in order to keep cost down of course).

If Ivan isn’t on a vodka fueled rampage he opens the potato and manually inputs your inputs into a smaller potato and sends it back. The problem is sometimes Ivan runs out of vodka so he has to use the potato to make more this is what is called “disconnect”

When Ivan is too drunk to open the potato in the first place this is called “lag”.

Now all of this may seem ridiculous but what you have to consider is that Bobby really needs another 50 million dollar bonus so he can pay all his legal fees for all the horrible things he has done over the years. So in order to keep cost low sacrifices must be made.

Bobby knew he could throw out a low budget, minimal effort, d2 reskin and use peoples love of the game to get them to buy it. Then once he had their money just sit back and do virtually nothing.

Well played Bobby.
