How does leap attack work?

Hello , I’m new to the Barbarian build , I just wondered how the leap attack really work ? When I look to leap attack on my screen it displays two types of damage : one flat type and the other is a +% , a percentage addition . Is the flat damage concerning the AOE ( area of effect ) damages ? And the percentage addition ads to your base damage and happens when you hit a monster ? Or am I wrong ?

every time you use Leap Attack you basically hit a single monster really hard with your main hand weapon and then you launch a nova that hurts the monsters around you with a flat damage ( x to y ) that is not dependent on your weapon damage.

Leap as a synergy will increase the weapon hit damage and the nova damage, but the masteries skills will only increase the initial weapon hit, not the nova.

after you have 20 points in Leap Attack and 20 points in Leap the only way to increase your nova damage is to use Grim Ward on monsters.

In their infinite wisdom the devs made leap attack’s set animation speed faster or slower depending on your weapon set up. 2handers using leap attack are slower than onehanded/shield and dual wield leap attack is a bit faster than that.

Meaning the best way to use leap attack is the same way you make all your barbarians: dw with grief. Except grief/azurewrath is probably the best as it will strip undead physical reduction to 0 and the leap nova will do full damage to them.

Ultimately leap attack with endgame gear at lvl40+ the nova does about 1500-3000 damage and is decent enough to clear p1 but at that point your better off using whirlwind. The only time its strategically better is if you need to knock out a unique real quick that is surrounded like berserk, but you’re also better off just howling and using berserk…

Leap attack is great in nightmare while leveling though.

i support this

i finished NM and leveled in WSK with just a gambled rare battle hammer (~60% ED and some other good mods) & a spirit sword in off-hand, Stealth , Lore, crafted Blood Gloves and a lucky Goblin Toe drop from normal Diablo.

The remade Leap attack skills is waaaaay better to level up before entering hell than warcry ever was, because you don’t need to face the insane mana cost, it’s easy to kill bosses with it, AND you save a respec.
