If Blizzard won’t help you, another thing you can try if you have a trustworthy friend that plays the game is to PVP and allow looting of the corpse. Just make sure they do so with a throw away character and items, that way they don’t lose the ability to play their character if they inherit the issues from the same item.

only question i have is how to turn on corpse looting 
It should be in the player menu where you can form/join parties. It must be toggled on before you are killed.
Also further info, it only allows looting of the equipped gear, not anything in the inventory. So the character would still be bugged, and whoever helps you won’t risk inheriting the bug. You should be able to open your mercenary and drop the items on the ground for your friend to temporarily hold onto. Even though the character and anything in the inventory would be lost, this offers a way where you can at least recover the equipped gear.
Hopefully Blizzard can assist and you won’t lose anything other than the bugged item.
