Made a Hoto in a War Scepter (mace class) It didn’t make it a Hoto.
Why Didn’t it make it a Hoto, and how do I get my Runes back?
A war scepter is no Mace. It is a Szepter. You can’t get runes back. Better inform yourself which weapon you can use for an Hoto. A Flail is possible and mostly used.
A War Scepter is (Mace Class) says it on the weapon.
But not in the Diablo Wiki.
The weapon class doesn’t matter. This is not a description for the useable weapon for a runeword.
Im playing D2R, Im not playing Wiki. and in the game i bought, It clearly says Mace Class on the War Scepter. This is Blizzards problem, Its nothing i did, & i sould 100% get the Runes back for their miss labling of the War Scepter if its not a Mace Class.
You have to learn and read how a game or specific runewords are working. And I repeat it the class doesn’t matter.
U never would know how to made a runeword if you don’t informed yourself about it. It seems to me you forgot to read it well.

When it comes to crafting Rune Words, Maces only include:
| Normal | Exceptional | Elite |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Mace, | Flanged Mace, | Reinforced Mace |
| 2. Morning Star, | Jagged Star, | Devil Star |
| 3. Flail, | Knout, | Scourge |
All other Mace Class Weapons are sub-Classes of the Mace. Unfortunately, this information is not displayed in the game. But then, neither is the Recipe for the Heart of the Oak Rune Word.
Most, if not all, sites that list Rune Word Recipes also list which items to use. They may even list the items that will not work.
There is a Cube Recipe that will remove the Runes from your War Scepter. Unfortunately, it destroys whatever was in those Sockets: Gems, Jewels or Runes.
There is no Recipe for removing the Runes without destroying them. Sorry for your loss.
D2 has always worked this way… for over 21 years now.
