Hostility on Hardcore?

Is there a legitimate reason this option exists other than to try PK sniping strangers?

Every pub game, someone will hostile and try and snipe at various waypoints. All light sorcs. I think they are bots. I’ve had to start wearing 2 perfect whisp projectors and a Tgods.

I’ve killed 6 of them today. The last one almost got me due to a slow load in.

It just seems like an option that only exists to harass other players and ruin their game experience. Easily solved by requiring both players have to have selected hostile.

Its as designed, and no it isnt harrasment.

I had a very intense moment with someone who hostiles me a few days ago.

I chose to fight but I could have just left if I didn’t like it.

He almost killed me but I got away.

Tons of fun, heart pounding.

Sounds like you’re so good at this game that instead of leaving you can kill them all, even while loading you can kill them…so what’s your problem?

I almost die and love it, you stay and kill them and complain.

If enough people complain, they will change this. Deep down there is no logical reason to keep this outdated mechanic.

In my opinion, PVP and PVM should be two separate game modes with completely separate balance.

Its roleplaying.

People have complained about it for the game’s entire 20+ year existence.
It’s not going to change; it was designed this way intentionally.

There are ways to avoid hostility, that were also designed intentionally for use in avoiding it.

I do not play HC. But if PK’d, do you actually stay dead? Always wondered if HC can respawn from a PK.

Let’s be honest

Most likely this guy got pkd

Came In here to complain under the guise that he was the one that survived 6 pks even while loading.

It’s pretty obvious imo

Instead of making no consequence to death by another player I think requiring consent to hostile condition and or the ability to block being placed in the same game with a particular user would greatly improve HC for me. Maybe even make it an option when you make a character HC with PVP or Just HC. Even coming across one person that griefs other players ruins the experience for me. It’s harassment and it is made many times worse in HC when actual time and effort gets lost and you likely didn’t ask for it.

Since your necro’ing all the Hostile/PK threads I’ll bring your attention to something Manticore posted in the last one you necro’d

“Blizzard Entertainment is in no way responsible for your hardcore character. If you choose to create and play a hardcore character, you do so at your own risk. Blizzard is not responsible for the death and loss of your hardcore characters for any reason including Internet lag, bugs, Acts of God, your little sister, or any other reason whatsoever. Consult the End User License Agreement for more details. Blizzard will not, and does not have the capability to restore any deceased Hardcore characters. Don’t even ask. La-la-la-la-la, we can’t hear you."

PK’ing is working as intended.

Well not making a space for someone who is in between does hurt the community because people like me and their are quite a few find SC boring and HC too hostile. Anyone who thinks dated pvp mechanics are the only way to go aren’t very creative or compassionate. The game would have more usage if their were more options, just saying. The common excuses for defending it as it is are weak. It is as if its some twisted religion, all hail the sacred pvp mechanics!

It needs to stay. Its part of the fun of hard cored and im the one being PK not the PKER. I remember when I was 13 and found a SOJ off NM andy and in the next game I got pked. You get that adrenalin rush that a lot of HC players seek and enjoy. You never know when your going to go and the cause. If you want to play HC without PK go private or make a discord community for non PK HC games.

Griefing and being griefed is 100% the only point of online HC mode. There’s no other reason to play multiplayer HC mode outside of trying spit in someone’s cereal, and protecting your own bowl while you do it.

I’m not praising the mode either, but I can appreciate what it is. I’ve personally always found HC modes in ARPGs to be trash content outside of solo play, for the reason listed above. However, there’s no reason for HC players to pretend that this outcome is surprising. It’s like the WoW Classic kids who all jumped on a PvP server, then got made that PvP happened and “wasted their time”. It’s in the fine print. Hell, it’s in the large print. You signed up for more extreme consequences.

PK exists for the same reason as the possibility to rip off or trick other players with nothing but ingame means, to add a sense of dread and danger around every corner to the atmosphere. The devs stated this back then (2000s), when people were asking for some sort of scam protection. Basically the whole design philosophy is the complete opposite of what an online game would look like today.

From a design POV other players are not really your ‘allies’ or ‘friends’, but merely strangers trying to satisfy their own needs.

You bring modern MMO concepts like PvE, PvP and competitive balancing into this discussion, these ideas didn’t even exist when the game was produced somewhere in the late 90s.

For HC kills you don’t even need the hostility function, you can kill people with far more covert tactics like dirty TPs, pre-luring dangerous mobs to an entrance, or the De Seis/Defiler group spawns in CS. That’s why most serious HC players only group with trusted people.

And this is why I played offline with my HC character for a better quality of life.
But yeah, they knew what they signed up for it is what it is. No need to change it.

That’s why you warp in another, close to that zone waypoint and tp/walk to that zone, they won’t expect you. Using waypoints cross acts will be much slower to load.

Don’t like it? Don’t play hc! Hell, just don’t play.

The one aspect that keeps D2 alive needs to be left alone!

Play somthing else.
