I played the classic game back in the days, and have enjoyed it a lot through the years.
I was one of the players that wanted a remaster. But did i really want that?
After weeks of playing the remaster. I just can’t enjoy it the same way as back in the days. I’m at a point atm where it’s just not fun at all.
I have been thinking about how that is. I took a look back at what i have been doing in resurrected. I have been trying all builds wich isn’t the Meta.
The meta have been the same for years. And i’m tired of these builds. But again I’m also tired of the builds wich isn’t the meta. What makes me feel this way, is all the immunities in the game, the builds i want to play can only play a limited places. Wich forces you to play the same places over and over again. The are so much content in the game and only a few builds can do it all.
What would make me enjoy it again was if the bad builds got some love, and classes like assassin should have more than only 1 useful build.
I wish immunities where lowered to Max 90% so all classes and builds could do all the content, 90% immune is still hard to beat but not impossible. Instead of taking the fight as it is now you just skip the monsters. If the immune was 90% i would still fight them when it’s possible to kill them.
And i know some builds have a way around immunes like infinity. And then some players just say use this and use that to deal with it. I don’t like that many players and streamers tell you how you should play the game. In 1000’s of hours in the game i haven’t got more than 1 skiller charm. And never got any high runes on hell.
I don’t think a game with so many rare drops should punish you when you are just unlucky. The most powerfull thing, are hidden by runes you never see.
With lower immune enemy’s, you can better use gear you can get through the game. Rely on specific items to success is just not fun. I wish unique items was just as good as runewords. That would also help more builds have a chance.
Maybe i am wrong and just don’t like the game in 2021 as I did back in the days. It’s just my thoughts about why i can’t enjoy the game anymore.
Lastly i hope they keep immunes away from D4 . And not make half the game not playable like D2 for many builds.

I complained in the d2 forums back in the 1972 about the stupid IMMUNITY that mobs got in a later LoD patch if I remember it correctly.
Of Course they should have something like 90%-95% immunity but not 100%. this is ssooooo dumb. But it has been dumb for 30 years so I doubt bliz will do anything about it in the ressurected game. Maybe in an exansion later on. hope for that.

Of course you cant, you are older by many years, its not previous you. You have changed.

That’s very normal, and doesn’t have much to do with the game (although that does play a factor). You’re 20 years older than you were when it came out, and presumably you were pretty young at that time. Your lifestyle as an adult vs teen is vastly different, as are your responsibilities.

D2 is an old game and after playing other more modern games for 15 years the ‘old’ part of the game does show. It’s hard to hold the attention when there are so many other options that are newer…
I’ve been doing Chaos Runs with my Trapper in Hell, I don’t have Infinity yet. I bring this up because of Balrogs; Fire Immune and Lit resists of 75. As a Lit trapper with maxed out Fireblast these guys were the most annoying guys I faced in a while. They take some time to whittle down with my traps. That was until I got a lower resist wand and now I just blow through them again.
My point: highly immune is easily overcome with a wand of LR. Immune means I have to try other things. The Lit Immune Flayers in A3 had me going slower and thinking about each engagement. I had to use Fireblast or run them over some dead bodies to DS them all. Immunities create the challenge, high resistance is just an annoyance.

“Wahh… things are hard, and I want them to be easier… I don’t want to actually have to work to earn the best stuff in the game.” Or something to that effect…
I’ve been playing this game since it came out, and the immunities and the loot hunt are the only thing that make it worth putting in the time. At level 80 you can pretty much faceroll with whatever gear you find except for immunes. With good gear you can do it much sooner. Also, it helps when you’re planning your spec out in advance instead of trying trash that everyone knows doesn’t work (and never has).
Even then, the worst specs can still crush hell if you play properly… this game is about the journey, as there really is no end point.

you may have played back in the day, doesn’t mean you like the game anymore
sounds like you don’t like the game now. that’s fine, there’s plenty of others to play

Sounds like you only play pve. A well built ghost sin can dominate. And we already know trap assassins are good.
I don’t think immunities should be removed, but I think who gets them should be changed slightly. To me, part of what makes a great game is one that…makes sense its own world? Is the best way I can put it.
Take for example, physical immunes. PI’s spawn a lot in Hell. I don’t know what these people on youtube keep saying “and if you run into a PI there’s ways around it” I can’t play one game in Hell and not run into these sob’s at least half a dozen times. I have issue with who gets to spawn with it. Ghosts, specters, wraiths, they’re semi-corporal, I can see they have bones, therefore they should not be able to spawn with PI but physical resistance. Which in hell would be 75%. Willowwisp on the other hand is a translucent ghost and should spawn PI. Uniques should still spawn with PI as a possible roll, but not on every type of demon, undead or animal. I mean not even Uber Diablo is PI. I ran into an Act I Hell zombie that’s PI. Really? He’s indestructible. No physical damage can hurt him. Why is he an Act I zombie then and not the lord of…undead invincibility. I’m just saying it should make sense. I know it was made to make end game harder, but still. An extra strong cursed manaburn PI quill rat should be the last boss in the game.

I love how you frame this as two positives when only one of those things is a positive dopamine spitting event and the other only serves to detract from the game unless you have one of the most expensive items in the game.
Honestly, remove total immunities or create a seasonal runeword that’s a baby infinity.

Honestly, the most fun I ever had in Diablo 2 was back in 1.04 to 1.08 and I have accepted the fact that, to me, it will never be that much fun again.

You played it for years and are now bored of it. That’s perfectly natural. When I played LoD for a decade it was offline only no ladder runewords no uber. Now with D2R I am playing online and am collecting the keys. It’s like a new game for me making Spirit RWs, Insight, Grief, etc something I couldn’t do before. Last week I found a Ber so made a Beast zerker axe with it. I instantly regretted it because that means I will mostly use it to make the same builds I have played for years and it got instantly boring for me in my head.

I’ve played this off and on since day 1. It has a window where it’s fun again and then it’s not. I think it was the most fun in the first few years it came out. It was new. Things changed a lot. There wasn’t a bunch of guides explaining every detail on the most effective way to play.
I think changes would spice it up for another round but that will fade too. Once you accomplish the goal you’ve set motivation is low. So then you set a new goal over and over until you don’t care anymore and put it down for a while. I’ve even played old patches setting goals that way. But it ends.
Until next time.

i agree that immunities are a crap mechanic
they should just be capped somewhere 95-99% and just be super resistant
it would be the speed bump they want, rather than the wall of boredom it currently is

I have no idea what the heck you are talking about. Sin is probably the cheapest to gear to be able to kill hell with ease. ( both trap and melee class)
You dont “need” infinity to get around immunity. There are plenty of ways around it. A merc would help. Plenty of items and rune words that offer multiple elemtnal damage so you still can kill the immunity. This apply to skills as well.
Immunity is an excellent mechanics. It require the players to think and work with what they have. Instead of the d3 problem solving, oh this do x% less damage? Well lets just add xxx% to the previous set bonus and just brute force it though it.
I sure as hell hope they add immunity in d4 so it makes people think on how to get around it. By either tweeking the builds or using NPCs or all of the above.

At least they should added more way to break immunit. They should at least let lower resistant of all kind to break it, so people will have multiple way to do so. ( instead just infinity which is a expensive requirenment )
I’m also an old gamer. Anyone remember #70 to disable call waiting so your internet connection wouldn’t break when someone tried calling?
Back in the late 90s, there wasn’t a lot of games around, let alone games that could compete with Diablo 2. Honestly, people have been suggesting a number of things the original poster indicated here - all to make the game better but Blizzard ignores nearly all of it. The token change here or there in no way suggests they care about anyone’s suggestions.
Let’s roll the clock back a couple years in Blizzard’s board room. How do they get more money out of an old game? Someone suggests they do a remaster. The big wigs agree. They start to discuss what they need to do to market it. They make some token changes under the guise that “we listen to our community.” How long do you think in terms of coding did it take for them to let you repeatedly kill the Cow King? That is what I mean by the word “token” - little to zero effort to make the change, hoping they can cash in big when they claim, “we listen to our community.”
Blizzard has never listened to their community because they are arrogant. In 2000, they could afford to be arrogant because, after all, D2 LOD was doing them well and there wasn’t a ton of competition. Today, the landscape is different but Blizzard hasn’t adjusted well. I suspect the majority of players on D2R are just people tired of D3 or an old gamer like me who wants to see what changed. In other words, I suspect Blizzard never increased their player base at all.
Today, there are many games that far surpass Blizzard. I’m waiting for the ladder to see what they do with a number of issues posted here: the number of character slots, server issues, etc, etc. I suspect they will do nothing and I will return to other games where the community is respected.

A “nerf immunities, dammit!” thread disguised as a Why I Don’t Like The Game Anymore to give it a (false) sense of authority.
Forget removing immunities. Really, forget all about it. It’s the only thing that distinguishes Hell from Nightmare. It was a bad game design decision, criticized way back in the day. And if you have played as much as you claim you have, you should have known this, instead of coming here only 20 years later to complain about it with that halo of seniority you bought on sale. (the bs is strong on this one)
But because the game was designed this way, it would have to be fundamentally changed in order for immunities to be removed and Hell still present a challenge. Asking for immunities removal is not worth the effort. Diablo 2 opened the way for this genre. Thanks to it we can go play the more modern renditions that have made better (not perfect) decisions as far as difficulty is concerned. Have fun with those if this one isn’t fun for you anymore.
But leave this game alone! How’s that for honest feedback?
