Help: Infinity but often dying

So I recently made an infinity but he is often dying to these 3 mobs 50% of the time.

Bartuc’s mob in travincial, lightning ghosts in worldstone, Snake’s poison cloud in nilathak.

He is @ 85% poison resist with andy gaze, eth glad’s bane and an infinity. Do i need more life leech? Do i need to swap back to vamp gaze for higher fire res and dmg and magic reduce?
What gems should I put on him? Should i change from defiance aura to freeze aura ? Or go might for more dmg hence more leech?

More IAS and Life leech.
Get a eth armor treachery and he will be much better off.

eth treachery makes a world of difference.

Do you have CTA too? battle order helps a lot.

The only thing that works to keep a merc alive in Travincal is a Guardian Angel/Kira’s combo. Moves resists up to 90% and will even be over 50% with conviction. The reason being is hydra damage is bugged on Council mobs and does like 10x the damage it should. This is why mercs get gibbed by them so often. Souls would probably benefit from the combo too, but they also have a slightly different bug. They do physical and lightning damage at the same time with their bolts. Similar with the vipers. Basically all the mobs that are killing your merc are bugged mobs.

If I know I’m gonna be running Trav the whole session, I just gear Kira’s/Guardian angel and my merc won’t die. It works fine for other farm spots too. I mean it isn’t wasted if you are running infinity as keeping them alive is more important than damage at that point anyway.

The Tomb Vipers in Nilathak are bugged and they do physical dmg per frame. The only thing that can help your Merc there is physical dmg reduction not poison resist. It’s better to avoid them as best as you can. Keep repositioning your Merc with teleport so that he’s not in the ‘poison’ cloud. If you happen to be in the cloud, don’t move. If both you and your Merc teleport into the cloud… good luck because even if you don’t move, if your Merc is close to you in the cloud and moves, you will take the physical dmg ticks together. Use potion and teleport out of the poison cloud ASAP. Also, another way the tomb vipers are bugged is that their poison cloud remains even after they visually disappear. Even after poison cloud disappears, wait 3-4 seconds before running in that direction

Yeah. I thought it was another crazy physical damage bug like the souls have.

Ya, and it’s misleading because everyone sees poison cloud, so they assume stack poison resistance… who knows how long blizzard left that bug alone.

Don’t know the exact value but I think it’s in the 30-50 range… if you get flat damage reduction (Not %) that high, you could completely negate the physical dmg ticks done by tomb vipers.

TBH, with all the GG runeword gear, these bugged mobs are the only thing that keep the endgame interesting… and some occasional combination of affixes on unique pack. Otherwise, you’d faceroll everything.

Get ebug fort armor.:sunglasses:

It won’t do anything against the mobs he mentioned and especially not council. The only trick to keeping a merc alive in Travincal is getting fire resist to 90% and making sure you have enough over that to deal with conviction. Also, ebug fort isn’t a thing in d2r

best way for merc to stay alive is lots of dmg and life leech.

ebug is gone in D2r.

I could be misremembering but I think it goes up to 35ish dmg per second on hell, but they stack.

would treachery runeword work instead as some ppl have mentioned it. Or is there a way to give him fire or lightning absorb?

Treachery works crazy good but make sure its proc’d before zipping to Travs

Learn to use you shift+right click while hovering over a full rejuv potion on your belt to feed him once an awhile.

Who says they aren’t already doing that?
You posted that as if there is no such thing as instant one hit deaths and it can be avoided.

I personally never use hirelings because they die too fast. People posting to use certain things are trying to pass it off as if by giving a hirling certain equipment it makes them invincible. It doesn’t, hirelings I get, always die in as short of a time as 15 seconds.

I can say first hand that the gear doesn’t matter I’ve used all the suggested gear everyone says to use, I tested it, and so far, the hireling is dead in under 15 seconds of attacking a mob.

To blame me for the hireling dying is hilarious because the hireling dies the same no matter what gear I’ve read people say to use.

Hirelings are just a waste of gold.

Tbh not much you can do vs Nihla Sneks.

Anything that stands in the Poison vanishes.
A Leopard 2 wuld too.

Nothing personal.

Godspeed Brother!

The council member’s hydras are definitely bugged, it does way more damage to the merc than it should, also the pit lords in chaos sanc almost always kill him too.
