Hellforge Revisited: Smash Annihilus

Kill Hephasto the Armorer and take the Hellforge Hammer to the Hellforge. There you will smash the (crappy low rolled) Annihilus once and for all!

And then loot high runes.

This is actually not that bad of an idea. If you kept the actual soulstone, and instead smashed an anni, the quest would not complete.

Add a chance for a SoJ to drop as well just for the lols.

Annihilus could have an alternate version

Combine annihilus with a Torch

Result: annihilus no longer gives + all skills

But now rather gives + 1 Oskill to a random skill of that class

Ideally it should be fully synergized to make the concept viable on as many skills as possible

Out of these posts recently… this is a cool idea! Maybe it’s another hellforge roll? Or a slight increase to the treasure class of runes that drop from it? No buff to rune drop rate though

Its been suggested previous that you smash the Standard of Heroes for a chance at a HR or additional uber type portal.

With the addition of a zillion anni though, this works too.

Finally one of spit balls stuck.

With how annis are raining from the sky, and how reliable it is to farm torches, both ideas seem suited for SSF; though I suppose having your server flooded with diablo clones may not be SSF.

The high rune problem is difficult to solve. Injecting more into the game would be a nice band aid, but not really a solution to the idea of a rune hierarchy. Ask anyone how many times they’ve burned 2 Ber to cube 1 Jah to find out how they feel about the arbitrary rune hierarchy.

Terrorized hellforge combo quest that isn’t out of reach to trigger for every other day gamer? Sounds cool. Oh forgot it takes the soj sink to get the annis that takes tim out of the running to solo self activate.

Need like standard of heroes kind of level vs 100 sojs. I got given a soj this ladder. Still haven’t found one of my own since mid 2000s. I did finally find a shako. Even if its not even needed now lol.

So a necro torch would give you 1/3 chance to get a curse,3.33% chance of a specific skill

So a 1 in 3 chance to get a downgrade? Curse tree is the most useless to pump skills with +skill gear. Jus sayin.

When you gamble to improve, you gamble to ruin your item too

That’s why I like corruption mechanics and why I think crafting should have a retention mechanic

Sure it makes crafting more likely to yield better items, but it also makes people sacrifice way better items

It’s dumb to just gamble any blue item and throw it in the cube no matter what it rolls

Would make more sense to have affix rentention

That way you’d even create a magic item market

It’s not a bad idea… if Annihilus was as rare as it used to be. Now people will just save their forge quest until they inevitably get Annihilus.

Also forge rushing would be an even bigger problem.

Also. Include something with the standard of heros.

Needs an end game use.
