My brother has been trying to get me to play it again but when I checked Battlenet it has no option to play, only the option to purchase D2R. Am I still able to access my D2 from years ago?

The short answer is “yes” if you redeemed the authentication codes or if you still have the original CDs with the authentication codes.
If you redeemed the codes, they will be located at the very bottom of your “Games & Subscriptions” tab on your Battle.Net profile… here: https://account.battle.net/games#classic-game-accounts

Diablo II does not use the modern Battle.Net… so Diablo II is not listed on the Battle.Net App. You’ll find the steps to install Diablo II here: https://us.support.blizzard.com/en/article/13867
