-The community is more mature, Softcore community reminds me a bit of the Fortnite community.
-You become a better gamer, whereas in Softcore you don’t have to think about building your character and playing to any sort of mechanics. “oops I died kek time to respawn with no penalty”
- The adrenaline rush you get when you almost die is intoxicating. There’s no better feeling that coming out of a crappy situation alive. You feel, invigorated, leaves you yearning for more. MOAR.
Things I would say to Softcore players? Come to the dark side. Disconnects rarely kill people so don’t believe that lame excuse Softcore Players always use “Derp you could die from a disconnect” , yeah that’s like hitting the lottery. We did fine on AoL Dial up.
The Hardcore community cares about eachother, it’s easy to find a group of friends that run eachother through the game after a Death or if you want to create a new character

Softcore player wouldn’t be able to handle a death even under lvl 70, hardcore is not for everyone

True story…The original game was supposed to be hardcore only. The decision was removed as it was considered to harsh. I played softcore once to get the achievement ressurection in d3. Were players dying everywhere over and over. Was silly af

I play Breviks hardcore games on steam too. 16 bit type games but ill play anything one life or hardcore
Fair comments you HC people. I know this is not for everyone. Personally I don’t see the point in wasted time. I know I may sound a little abrupt but don’t really want an adrenaline rush because of death even in game.
All in all made a thread before about HC and this adrenaline thing is what it really boils down to. I don’t see the appeal in it as I played HC back in the day. I amazon and a barb lost tye zon but the barb lived through to get account deleted.
Good luck you HC players…

It’s not wasted if you’re creating memories and becoming better at the game.

Better is relative. As a stroke survivor with reduced reaction time and movement, I’m glad softcore is there.

You survived the REAL Hardcore game bro, that’s something to be proud of. You deserve to relax in Softcore man.

Its better until you die in loading screen! I played only HC in D2 Legacy but… In D2R i died 2 times while loading and since then never touched it again… With SSD load times sometimes takes more than 10 sec

As far as wasted time is concerned. Youre playing a video game. None of what you attain will improve your use of time while playing a video game. Except Hardcore.

Yeah well you have to perceive which waypoints have high load times, even on an SSD it’s long, this is something they need to fix asap, however I’d say get back at it man. Just build your character and be more aware. Dying 2 times at the same spot is sus though, you should think about the first time and realize that it could happen again. My buddy was saying the same thing, he died to a loading screen, which sucks but he hasn’t died to the same thing since then. Fridgid Waypoint is the worst one out of all of them.
exactly!
Spot on! Im retired from hardcore and missed those feelings and the community.
Hard to find game to play with people, but once you find a game, you just silently play along each other and not let each other die. We feel their loss if the other does die.
Took me awhile to accept death in SC, but now I got used to just die freely and no one cares. Hard to get back to hardcore now
After building pretty much one of each meta class to 80+ in non ladder sc and making another sorc to 90 in ladder sc, I’ve for the first time ever, dove into the hc ladder pool. Making a Fohadin and loving the butt clench moments. The safe play. The slower progression to be safe. The gear progression focusing on resistances and not pure glass cannon.
Players in hc are 100% friendlier. I had a dude playing with me on his sorc through nightmare, he was teleing to Meph for me, and I was FoHing the dolls and one exploded and killed him instantly.
He immediately rejoined on his BO barb and kept helping even after I inadvertent killed his level 60 sorc! A true legend.

I completely agree but then again I dont feel like its worth gambling all those invested hours into mediocre servers where characters stay in the game after disconnects or long loading screens that basically are the reasons why you die.

this is actually the only reason for HC, it’s an adrenaline fix. I dont get careless in sc, I do my best to not die(and so far I’m still on zero deaths!). I learned on my own, how to completely mitigate almost all damage. take rockfleece for example, this is an armor with a LOT of potential that most sc players dont realize. maybe in hc yall know about it, but thats for survival reasons.
yes, sc is definitely more forgiving and you wont learn certain special bits…but folks like me who choose sc over hc arent complete idiots lol. I just prefer not to be severely punished for dozing off while in hell cows, or getting dc’d while a bunch of thorned hulks are trying to gank me near shank.
at the end of the day, everything is down to personal choice and taste.
it’s like having keep inventory in minecraft, with it set to false then you will play harder to avoid losing all your gear. near-death experiences ingame and irl all provide an adrenaline rush when there is something major to lose
I forgot to mention, yeah hc community is much tighter than sc. I havent played hc in d2r, so idk what the pk’ers are like now…but back then they were absolutely underhanded scumbags. tppk, for example
I agree with you OP.
I play diablo 3 hardcore and love it.
I don’t player Diablo 2 hardcore because its too hard
