Yesterday i used a waypoint on my hardcore journey and when the game loaded i was dead… i’m not playing hardcore ever again if i can get killed while not being able to play the game.
Any plans to solve this? Like a protection when loading screen or something like that?
It was pretty sad to die in such a stupid way that i culdn’t even control anything about it.

that’s it? give up? not going to try again and learn from this ?
d2 hardcore is an ongoing learning experience, sometimes it’s other people, sometimes it’s lag, sometimes it’s long loading times. but there’s always something to be more safe about than your current methods.
for instance. in D2:R specifically, you should NEVER go from any other act, into frigid highlands, it is the longest load time for some reason. go to act5 first, or any other way point in the act, and then into frigid.
i’ve almost died a few times loading into frigid, nastiest WP in the game imo.

How’s your ISP? Is it good, bad?
one thing is dying because X aura on the enemies or you got greedy or whatever reason like that, that’s okay and part of playing the game on hardcore.
On the other hand, dying in a loading screen have nothing to do with your gameplay or decisions it’s just bullsh1t and can’t do anything about it. They have to solve it somehow.

I can count on one hand for how many times that I’ve had a lag death.
The answer is none.
Why?
I have fiber optics for internet.
Not everything is Blizzards fault.
Maybe it’s your internet.
Plus you can also see how well the connection to the game you’re possibly joining is going to be before you can join.
Joining a game with a poor connection is going to be really laggy for you.
I’d say that’s actually a great thing that they implemented now.
But no, people choose to ignore a great feature like that and come straight to the forums and complain that this lag is garbage.
That excuse would have worked 20 years ago. But blizzard fixed that for ya.
i literally discussed that in my post, yes there are things you can do to be safer /facepalm. you’re right, maybe hardcore isn’t right for you.
i died one time because i think i left while standing on top of a fire, but you’d think leaving would make your character not take damage, well i don’t know exactly what happened but my character was dead when i tried to make a new game, you know what i didn’t do ?
go to the forum and tell everyone that the game is bad because of a small little error ON MY PART. not thinking safe enough.
i’m guessing you did exactly what i posted, you joined a WP from a different act (takes longer if you’re in another act) so giving the monsters an extra 3-4 seconds to hit you is a big deal. maybe try safe WPS only in a new act or joining the act first? nah. just quit. but FIRST i must tell the battle.net forums of my heroic efforts … yawn.
he’s not complaining about lag … maybe read the post before you start bragging about an internet connection you rent from an ISP …

Thats the main reason I would never play D2R hardcore again. My new Laptop loads Icy in 3 secs (was 10 secs a while ago, even with unpacked game files), other wayoints in under 1 sec but still too risky for me.
In D2 LoD I quit hardcore when I realised that due to Player Kills via macros (cast a Fireball, use TP, set hostile, Fireball kills player) you are not allowed to play together with people you don’t know and trust, which made hardcore kind of a single player mode. Don’t know if this is still the case in D2R. But I guess bringing tons of monsters to a WP as a trap for other players is still a thing.
Lags / Disconnects are the other problem that could be solved on Blizz side but I doubt they ever will. Sometimes when I dc, my character is still remaining for 1 minute in that game. Enough time for a little Fallen to kill my char.
Hardcore is a nice idea in general and is fun… till you die for reasons you have no control of.
Load times should only be around 2 seconds. If you’re getting more than that something is wrong.

There is nothing they will do about it, it’s been 20 years and death to lag, loading screens and the black wall of death (well that’s just lag now).
HC is about getting over it and restarting. You can’t take any death hard you just pick it up and keep going. As mentioned above there are a few things you can do to minimize the risk like move to the act before you use any WP. If you are having issues with lag spikes, play something else.
Get back in there and keep going, that’s what HC is all about.
I tele on dia run and have dc, I log in after 8 min and bye bye.
First time? A bigger issue is when connection drops (own ISP/Battle.net)
Maybe there was someone in the game that herded them to the waypoint? I got caught that way once or twice. Quite funny.
Play necromancer: higher survival rate from bone armor/curses and skeleton/golem meat shields to block damage. Even with occasional lag it’s a pretty durable class.
meh. I’ve gotten lag spikes when my connection was just fine. I wasn’t even in a public game. It was especially bad when I was doing duriel one time, not just in wps and tps. I was able to play through the lag because I’m used to stuff like that with this game anyways. But I specifically remember one time where I went through my tp to the duriel room, and when I finished loading, my merc was already dead and I was at half hp. That would have never happened in the original game. That stuff happens when I’m not even lagging. Like, my character will be on the other side of the tp doing nothing while I’m still loading. They really should find a way to fix that. It seems to work like that even in single player, offline. You’re character shouldn’t be targetable, and completely immune to attacks while your loading. I haven’t died like this yet, but I’m sure its happened to a LOT of people, hardcore or not.
What sucks is that they did fix this after the Tech Alpha, but the change somehow got reverted and never made it into the final game.
Loading Screen: Character Vulnerability & Time
Characters will no longer spawn in a hostile place until the game is fully loaded, preventing characters from getting attacked or harmed during a loading screen. Additionally, the overall load times will be faster.
Maybe they reverted to an older build at some point that undid their fix or something. They need to fix this, they needed to fix this a year and a half ago.
