I dont want this topic removed so I’ll refrain from posting game titles, but you all know what game I’m talking about. It’s the other one that most people prefer over D3.
Anyway, after playing D2 for the past couple weeks, there is something about the straightforward simplicity of D2 that makes the other game feel…i dunno like a mess?
There’s just so much going on in that game, yet there is still only a handful of builds that do well in end game.
Grinding maps and setting up all your league mechanic doo-hickeys takes forever. In D2 I can just pop open a game and have access to the best farming areas as long as I’ve beat Hell.
The campaign content is still fun to do over and over. I can kill the bosses, farm for keys, run cows, pits, pindle, etc. Joining pub baal runs and finding a good group is a blast.
It’s all accessible and fast. While everything in the other game’s endgame is a chore and takes hours to work for.

D2 is king! Hail to the King, baby! Oh wait, wrong game.

There is a reason every other ARPG is always compared to D2. D2 is the gold standard.
I burned out on that other game a few years ago actually…there were some things they did do right though.

Report back here after you’ve literally done your 2,000th Baal run and have come to the realization that there is nothing else at all to do in this game.
At least “the other game” has continual new content.

But there is more to do
You kill bosses. Same as you do in the other game, just a lot less crap in the way here.

True, but blizzard that made D3 is still around to make new stuff. Not the case with d2 so apples to oranges. If blizzard north was still here maybe d2 got new stuff with time
pvp, new builds, solo challenges, ladder resets, always something to do, you just in particular may not be a fan of the content. that doesn’t mean it a flaw in the game
Content doesn’t mean anything on it’s own. There are entire games that could have been new content to me but won’t be because … they’re not fun to play.
As boring as it is to do repetitive tasks, as long as they amount to something in the end and feel good while your doing them, its a recipe for enjoyment.
Not every game has gotten that recipe correct. Diablo 2 for all it’s flaws is one of the few games I can replay as is.

I do agree that of all the ARPGs that D2(R) just got something perfectly done in terms of a balance on pacing, gameplay, rewards (gear), and progression.
While the game you won’t mention never hooked me the “3rd wheel” game of the 3 majors that are talked about at Dawn is as close to getting the mix right as I have seen and yet… maybe it is the world… just isn’t quite Diablo (2)
Grim is pretty good. Just the multiplayer aspect sucks.

I’ve played the other game plenty, I don’t have much desire to go back and play it.
I keep coming back to d2 though.
Yeah, agreed. I never really got into The Other Game, but in retrospect I only toyed with it because I wanted to be playing D2R.
Just to clear things up… Exactly which game are we talking about? Path of exile? Grim dawn? or d3?
I’ve tried all of em once or twice.
Path of Exile is overburden. In 2014 - 2016 PoE was much better than D2 in the same term, now today the whole new contents makes PoE very exhausting.

In my opinion, The unnamed game you speak of is a great game. I’ll never forget the moment I got my first “cast on damage taken” set up to work. 1000’s of hours played and boy do they know my weakness (stash tabs!). They were the ones that abandoned the “play the same acts over and over again at different difficulty settings” and gave us 10 full acts to take us to the end game (much appreciated by me).
The league mechanics that kept being added to the core game just made things too complicated for this simple old man to enjoy. The Beastiary, Delves, synthesis…etc all just too much bloat for me to take in when coming back after any long absence. The game was already very complex at the start.

I agree, I enjoy Diablo 2 very much.
The only thing I hate and that makes the game feel ancient compared to every other ARPG that has come out in the past 10 years is not being able to press a hotkey and instantly cast a spell. It really, really, really sucks.
I mean, they added this functionality to controllers, wonder if they’ll let PC users have it.

the other game is in a weird phase trying to transition to the “sequel”.
d2 feels so much better right now
I find it hard to even find an ARPG that is worth playing without first being compared to a Diablo and then failing to live up to my nostalgia. Even other Diablo games.
My main gripe is lack of Walk Only on left click. I get so frustrated when my guy just refuses to run, and decides to instead attack something that is nowhere near where I’m clicking my mouse.

Yes Totally agree!
e.g. POE… Spam Sirus takes so long … and got 6 portals only… and keep nerf some good build to the ground …
