I do not have a Grief but and if I got one I wanted to make a 2H Sword vs a phase blade.
Do you recommend Colossus Sword or Blade as the base?

First check ww speed breakpoints if you’re using ww.
One-handed weapons
Breakpoints: 15, 10, -10, -35
2h swords are treated as 1h for this.
Col blade is 5
Col sword is 10
So you would need a perfect 40ias grief in a colossus blade.
The reason people use phase blade is it has no durability so don’t need to repair it. Also it easily hits last ww breakpoint starting with a speed of -30. Guaranteed.
Grief is for the big + damage number. The weapon type is just a vessel. The only reason to not make it in phase blade is for the range. Phase is 2. You can get 3 from colossus blade or berserker axe but risk not hitting speed breakpoint. Berserker axe gets base speed of 0 so you need a 35 ias grief.

I set up a Col Sword but seeing the stats it is slower. So if I go 2h do the blade.
Okay this is cosmetic guys I have 2h etheral BOTD Col Blade so just wanted my barb to look amazing but i may be tempted to make in phase blade to get WW breakpoint. Or i risk not hitting last break point and get the range?
Yes you will most likely not get the perfect 40ias on the grief. So you won’t have the last ww breakpoint and have to repair the sword often.

The only reason ppl put it on phaseblades is because it’s indestructible which is useful for zealots and Fury babas. If you’re not going to repair your sword every 3 seconds, you could put it on any weapon you want as long as it’s not Ethereal.
no, its because phaseblade is -30 WeaponSpeedModifier.

Phase blade cannot spawn ethereal.
You can upgrade a (rare/ unique) crystal sword or dimensional blade to get and ethereal phase blade but they will never drop ethereal because the indestructable tag on the weapon prevents ethereal from rolling.

I have both phase and Col blade 5 socket - I think for WW col blade would be cool for range? I dont know im so confused but i appreciate the above on this matter.

Sad thing is if you actually have the runes and are asking this I am just gonna flat out say that you bought them lol.
Dont have the runes read above just discussing this now for when i do one day just got the bases. It appears everyone is leaning towards Phase.

Phase blade is way better because it’s flat damage so the faster the weapon the better the bonus. And with a really fast weapon its going to break a lot, so you want an indestructible weapon, which only leaves you with phase blade. There’s just no good reason to put grief in anything but a phase blade.
if someone has not said it yet, another reason it is made in a Phase blade - it doesn’t take durability. I don’t play a barb but, it might be worth your time to find out. it could cost a crazy amount to fix all the time say on a frenzy barb - I’m not saying don’t try but, might be worth investigating so that it doesn’t break the bank on repairs. Grief adds plain damage, not enhanced damage %. That’s another reason to use phase, other 2h runeword options are probably better because they achieve higher min/max due to being increased by a % rather than adding straight damage points.
If you must go with a two-handed sword for style, you could go Zweihander Greif and not risk a bad roll on ias, as all you’ll need is 24ias to hit the best breakpoint for this sword. CB is going to need a near perfect roll (39-40ias) - got a pocket full of Lo runes?
It’s fine if you want to duel with it - kinda sucky on repairs tho for PvM
…on second thought, making it non-superior might not be too expensive to repair. It would be a cool-non “cookie cutter” sword.
the only benefit would be increased range, grief doesn’t have enhanced damage, but it has the best sword IAS in the game and is indestructible, which is why its best for all pvm setups.
for pvp most people use berserker axe because it adds ones more range
not really sure " why" u want to use a 2 handed weapon, just make sure u can reach the breakpoints you want.
and i’ll reiterate… the only reason to even consider not using a phaseblade is for increased weapon range
weapons that have ED care about the weapon base damage, grief does not.

CB is the fastest 2 handed sword though, so if your dead set on using a 2 handed sword for that extra range… use that.
i think if your a barb though it would be more productive, (in my opinion), to just grab an azurewrath or lawbringer, for the sanctuary aura… ( unbeknownst to most people this allows you to ignore resistances of undead, (aka damage physical immunes that are undead)
