please support my cause! keep GM melee community alive!
No. Youâre asking for changes that are intrusive to the rest of the game to cater to an extremely small niche community. The cherry on top is that youâre describing a skill issue. The whole point of this GM/BM thing that youâre describing seems to be short duels between min/max characters. If youâre 100% aware of shifting, and that it is an effective strategy, then it sounds like itâs something that playerâs play around to win duels. Basically, you know itâs coming and can act accordingly without the game being changed. Describing holding shift as âstealing victoriesâ just emphasizes that you want a strategy nerfed because you personally canât deal with it.
Really consider what youâve asked for here:
- Players buying cheap death cleavers negatively affects botting, which is somehow a bad thing
- Add an icon pop up every time players press shift, visible to all other players, as if this wonât create obnoxious screen clutter
- Severely nerf a melee weapon, as if this wonât affect the rest of the game
- Disable a core game function when hostile
This is clownish to an extreme. If GM is a game mode created by agreed upon rules within that community, then that community can decide if shifting or zerker axes are allowed without having blizzard change the game to enforce it.
lol this isnt clownish. When a group of people who are literally paying for the entire game is asking for something small, it is probably a good idea to fulfill their demands.
So here are the numbers:
The total d2r user as of Jan 2025 is around 48k~52k.
Among these users, 20k+ are bots.
Blizzard just did a bot ban in early Jan.
They banned like 10,000+ bot accounts. These bot accounts have been paying taxes to blizzard for every ladder season. Without them, d2r would have shut down by now. So the recurring revenue is 200k usd every ladder season. In a year, almost a million dollars.
All your GG items you got from traderie or in a trade, these were all possible due to bots. Without them, the economy isnt very liquid at all.
So please be grateful. And a good way to express gratitude is by helping the group who paid for your gaming services for many years by granting them one small request.
You wonât be getting yourself any good will by promoting extremely shady practices.
RMT is something that harms the community as a whole, as it promotes account theft, spam, distorts the ladder race, etcâŚ
A group of people playing with made up rules can add one more made up rule if that group of people collectively think itâs a good made up rule.
Yet, only the OP seems to think that out of all the made up rules, this is the one made up rule that needs to be hard coded into the game. Sounds to me like OP doesnât have much support from this community for this change, otherwise that group would have simply added it as another made up rule in their duels based around made up rules.
Do you understand now?
lol. your assumptions are very flawed.
the melee community is against shifting. But shifting is hard to catch. You have to pull back at the right time and record. There are also false positives.
It seems that you think you are a clever dude, but you are actually very very dull and arrogant. Stop making up stories in your head man.
How do you not understand this? Itâs already a community driven niche with community crafted rules. If shifting is against these community crafted rules, then there you go. Self police it at that point. Asking for the game to be changed to serve this specific niche is idiocy.
To add the final nail in the coffin :
Shift is an alteration of how the client treats commands, not a command that is sent to the server. You can try to display it, or remove it, some players will simply mod those changes out of their clients. Like, if a player is willing to spend thousands of dollars to get an edge on others despite the breach of terms of use, or to forego common agreement rules to gain an edge (or both), chances are, theyâd be willing to spend just as much on a mod to gain an edge on others despite it being cheating.
Honestly, this whole thread comes off as âthis niche community Iâm in uses a strategy that I canât effectively navigate, so please change the game for all playersâ. If youâre going to invest that much time and money into an obscure niche, the least you can do is git gud at it.
You have Blizzard / MS numbers to back up that number?
Iâm actually quite curious to know how many folks still play d2r.
Whereâs your proof?
I assume you have a word from Blizzard to back that up?
Bots pay taxes?!? Who coulda thunk?!? So they officially register them bots at Blizzard and they pay taxes? Amazing! How nice of them!
I bet you have a link to a Blizzard VP who stated that, right?!!
aite the 48k~52k was taken from google trends.
20k are bots are from the botting community.
the ban was also from the botting community.
yes, botter accounts being banned every ladder and buying another account is a form of tax. this is recurring revenue for blizzard and this is the money that keeps them going. around 40k new accounts every year. why do you think blizzard doesnt just make a system to permanently ban bots?
I mean please. think before you tried to act smart by discrediting me. Did you really think I would just make up this fairy tale?
but dont worry peasants. i think it would be just faster for the group to hire a software programmaer to make a program that detects one or two button inputs. thread closed. be happy peasants.
i have no idea why Iâm engaging you of all people⌠but
because they CANT
geeze you have no freaking idea things workâŚ
blizzard spends X amount of money to make a system to catch botters
botters spend money to defeat that system
blizzard gets no money back by doing this⌠its a âcostâ a net negative
the botters cant run thier system without defeating it therefore GAIN money be defeating it.
as for why banning is done in waves⌠thats also obvious
if blizzard banned a bot the instant it was detected
they could just keep making changes until it wasnât detected
sure it would cost them an account each time but thats basically nothing
as soon as that new change didnt get instantly banned, they know they are undetected.
also blizzard bot catching system cant afford false positives
in order to have a âbot freeâ system you would need a to make a âperfectâ system that will always detect bots.
and you canât do that with 25 year old code
you are delusional.
blizzard is not actively developing codes to catch bots ROFL
are you high?
here is what they do or at least from what I heard.
blizzard first checks play time logs and IP.
when the play time is too high, those are flagged.
then those are banned.
try pindle farming 7hours a day for one month. You will get banned 100%.
so your fairy tales about diligent blizzard coders developing anti bot codes is just insane.
they are so lazy and cheap that they have not made any significant changes since the introduction of those sunder charms.
anyways, keep this thread closed. blizzard wont ever do anything for d2r. thread closed. stop responding to this bitter peasants. the community will just take care of the issue internally.
Can you explain why your niche dueling community with made up rules doesnât add another made up rule of âyou canât hold shiftâ? Of all the made up rules for your dueling club, why does âyou canât hold shiftâ need to be hard coded into the game in a way that affects everyone playing D2R?
Shifting is considered GM in most ladders for Conc Barbs as w/o it Zealots, Jabbers, and Fury Druids get an unfair advantage as they attack 5 times in 1 click before Conc Barbs get their Conc Defense bonuses to activate. If they didnât allow Shifting Conc Barbs would start every duel with 60% HP.
please rando troll. shifting is never allowed period. we decided to take care of this internally as a community. close thread.
Hey, can you explain why this rule needs to be hard coded into the game in way that affects all players when every other made up rule for this niche community is self policed?
