In GM melee, there is a BM technique called shifting.
What is shifting?
When two players approach each other in a GM melee duel, a shifter will unscrupulously press shift instead of exchanging blows with their opponent. The shifter will be in a stationary position and start swinging first while the other player that is approaching ends up running into the swing. This allows the shifter to get the first hit around 85% of the times. In a game format where victory is decided by 2~5 hits, this greatly affects the gameplay and obviously the outcome.
Why is this problematic?
This is problematic for many reasons.
many GM melee players spend hours and hours on maxroll calculating their build but shifters ruin this experience by stealing victories
shifting works especially well with berserker axe. so most players are just buying cheap ethereal death cleavers. When players just start buying cheap edcs, botting will eventually stop. However, when botting stops, you will have no recurring revenue. Botters will not buy new accounts since all the GM melee players will be using ethereal death cleavers.
Solution:
If you can, please have a shift icon popup next to the character’s box in the upper lefthand corner whenever a player presses shift. This way we can know for certain when a shifter has pressed the button.
limit the range of zerkers to range.
Currently, it is set to range 2. by limiting the range of zerkers, the only other range 2 weapon would be the scourge which is weak and unreliable.
severely nerf ethereal death cleavers.
when in hostile mode, get rid of stationary position. so no swinging while standing still
while you have a well written well formatted post, you fail in the most simple area.
thinking about his your ideas will affect anything but yourself.
so lets go in one by 1 to explain whats wrong with everything
you can’t have a shift icon pop up this isn’t that type of game, its not coded in that sort of way. while certainly the only reasonable idea here. its not possible without coding an entire system to do that… which basically makes it impossible. as i can discuss later
now we get into the really stupid idea that show the issue with your thought process. you are thinking solely about your own little issue… in a vacuum. without any concept of his this affect others. lets expand this only a tiny fraction… lets look outside of what seems to be a “smiters duel”… other classes use zerkers you know you ever think about that? even the same class outside of pvp can use zerkers… and whats worse… how the hell would this fix any? so now your both having the same issue at distance 1?
again this just show your being stupidly hyper hyperfocused on one singular issue… and not giving an once of through toward anything else… you want to nerf death. because u have an issue with it in pvp? you seem to be perfect;ly fine screwing over every single person who uses this in pvm… ignore that death is bis for Fury druid for pvm. stop thinking about only yourself
HAVE U HEARD OF RANGED WEAPONS? get your head out of your *** use your freaking brain.
and lastly.
the entire concept is you want to change ANYTHING related to pvp because you don’t find it “ok” in your precious “good manners” duels?
what about pking in hardcore?
lets assume they go out of their way to give u want you want? whats next? you going to nerf GA? you going to remove sorb from raven and wisp? ganna hit nozan relic dwarf star?
no of course you wont… because your playing a melee character
this game isn’t balanced around PvP. im surprised your still not crying about WSG.
your ideas will fail at balance as long as the only think you think of is what YOU want and not how this would affect other things.
man. please watch your tongue when you post things. you sound like a poorly educated guy. You also seem like a lonely troll as well but heck, I will bite and response to your trolly post.
are you a coder? I am pretty sure you arent. Please do not pretend to know things you have zero clue about. Just dont say anything if you do not know your stuff. I am sure coders at blizzards can weave this extra 4 lines of coding in if they wanted to.
ummm you make zero sense man. If all the zerker distance are set at 1, you would face zero problems. I would be happy with my GM melee as well. Whats the problem here? Oh wait, maybe you have a zerker and you feel that it might be devalued. please stop being selfish
i dont think you even play this game. there is the ethereal death cleaver which is an unique item and there is death, which is a runeword. I think you confused the two. man…how can you get confused between these… if you didnt read carefully, please be more carfeul next time.
I am just asking when in hostile mode, no stationary swinging. I have no idea why you mentioned range.
All in all, it seems that your arguments are nonsensical and just rude. Please learn to act like an adult and take your medications.
did some research on the web and now understand that only a few builds are allowed, and some items and so on. But what does GM stand for? Couldn’t find that.
Its a euphemism for strict style of playing and a lotta pouring money down the drain.
It kind of like drag car race. The biggest engine wins.
You make few builds under certain set of rules and you go head to head.
Thanks to Coooley, popularity has taken off in the last six months but GM melee is actually what fueled the d2r economy for the last 3 years. Also, GM melee fueled the original d2 economy for nearly the last two decades.
Some GM melee players paid 20k+ usd for certain items.
So the items that botters find such as SOJ, shako and other things pvm folks like, they were basically left overs that GM people dont care about.
GM people are the devils that fules the d2r bots but they are also the people that indirectly pays for the recurring d2r revenue for the last three years.
GM duels were so fun, I haven’t gotten into it “yet” in D2R.
However, did you just propose nerfing Death Cleaver? In a game where runewords far outshine uniques, you want to nerf one? EDC is a sweet weapon, and I get where you are coming from, but we don’t need nerfs to existing uniques.
“don’t pretend to know thing you have zero clue about”
then proceeds to assume blizzard can do this in 4 lines of codes
YES i can code… idk C or C++ which is the language d2 is written in
but most things in d2 are done in spreadsheets.
for example “fury” is bugged to in interruptible despite the skill description saying its uninterruptible because someone inadvertently forgot to delete the “1” in “skills.txt”, row 250 column FY.
I’ve played this game online since 1.09, ( i actually played before but i wasn’t doing closed bnet before then)
i dont make any sense to you because you lack game knowledge. you know zerker has a range of 2 and you know phase has a range of 1. what do u dont seem to realize is that no matter which way u put the ranges at… this will still exist if you have the same range. you cant attack while moving sans WW, therefore by walking into your opponent your opponent will always be able to hit you first if ranges are equal… what having a greater range allows is for you to walk into someone else and get the first hit becuase u can stop before you reach their range… and zerker has downsides… it needs more IAS to hit the same frames…
yes i assumed you were taking about the RW, because u said “ethereal” and when people say " ethereal death" they generally (read as 100% of the time) tend to talk about the RW… also using eth items without self repair/ indy is banned in GM dueling.
and as stated i had assumed you were talking about smiter duels… also… because ive never heard literally anyone complain about “deaths cleaver” unique
well i mentioned ranged weapons because… drumroll
AMAZON EXISTS
AND THEY DUEL TOO
Without getting into judgement on the people spending that money, it is noticeable that paying such high amounts of money on stuff in videogames makes the industry worse for everyone.
The people doing RMT tend to do shady stuff, like account theft, littering the game with bots, scamming, etc… so it’s a terrible thing to attract them by spending such high amounts of money.
And the incentives of trying to tap into that whale money for companies push them to make games a lot worse in order to extract more money from them.
If you are contemplating spending a significant amount of money in ANY game, please don’t. Be mindful of how the games are monetized, and don’t condone predatory practices.
lol most things are not done in spreadsheets in d2r man.
your reference to skills.txt is a very very small part of d2r.
afaik, rest are hard coded. please dont lie about your coding background.
if you knew, then you would know that 4 lines would be sufficient lol.
i think you seriously dont know what you are talking about. in GM melee there is no WW barb. Why are you even mentioning this? Now i am a bit sus. I dont think you play GM melee.
Also, why are you talking about ias all of sudden? I think EVERYONE knows the ias table bro. Any decent d2r player is well versed in AR, FCR, FHR bp tables. Please do not try to legitimize yourself by reciting the alphabet. Its not impressive and it has nothing to do with this conversation. I built a GM melee calculator man. I know this game really really really well.
so you didnt read my post carefully and you misread ethereal death cleaver as death.
And you expressed your anger at me because you misread it? dont be mad at me because you read it wrong. you owe me an apology for this one man.
umm amazon…what range 2+ weapons do they use in gm melee?
btw. in gm melee, zons do not use range 2 weapons.
All in all, I think you dont know what GM melee is. I know this to be true because you mixed up 3 pvp formats: gm melee, WW, and GM pvp. Otherwise you would not have mentioned zons (no GM melee zons would use spears LMFAO) and WW.
I know you are lonely and you want to act like you know whats going on in this d2r forum but please save yourself the embarrassment and do not comment on things you have Noooo idea about.
GM melee is an elite circle and most of us go back to LOD. Most players in GM melee have spent well over 2k USD and even as much as 30k and we all know each other. What is your character name swiftkitten? I have never even heard of you man. You are not even part of the scene. If you continue to reply with nonsensical things, I will have to embarrass you further. lets just end things here and just move along buddy.
@johnson
yup. I agree. I dont like spending money either. But you have to be grateful to the GM melee community. Without them, we would not have a working d2r and this is 100% true. The recurring revenue is nearly 100% from botters and gm melee literally pays them to keep the bots running. You are guys greatly benefitted from this btw with cheap perfect griffons and perfect RW tossed around everywhere.
Cons of botting:
ruins the economy in a week (I do admit, this is problematic)
discourages actual farming (yeah, this is problematic but on the other hand, if you know your items well, you could make some serious bucks)
pros of botting:
IT KEEPS THE GAME ALIVE! GM community is paying for your servers. (just on this alone, you must support the demands of the GM melee community. I know botting has ruined your experience and all but at the end of the day, who is paying the bills here?)
It allows you guys to have GG RWs and pvm items. You know that perfect infinity you have, its because the botters farmed so many HRs that made these GGs accessible for you. These were things GM melee didnt care about so you guys benefited from this.
I think d2r community is being rather ungrateful. GM melee community has literally paid for your d2r arguably for the last 2 years or so. I think its time that blizzard pays attention to the people who are paying rent. Imagine if GM melee just stopped buying items. Oh no… no more bots… not more recurring revenue from botting IDs. d2r will be gone in 6 months. RIP.
If players quit because they can’t have their OP runewords in two days, then good riddance. The OP runewords are meant to take a while for humans to spend their precious time finding.
so you would rather have the game die? if yes, then thats a sad conclusion. Perhaps you should move on to a different game where botting is regulated more tightly or play offline single player.
I’d rather the game be played by those who have the understanding that this game takes time to build their characters. If that means the game dying because players who want instant gratification hate it, then so be it.
F*** no. Warcraft 3 and Starcraft 1 and 2 never needed bots to keep the game servers running, and the community would rather have less broken items and no bots, especially none of the advertisement that RMT brings inside the game any way they can.
You guys harm the community and the industry with your RMT and you request that we be GRATEFUL? That’s messed up.
I doubt this.
Personal experience, potentially very biased: This and last season I was able to acquire GG itamzz within the first week due to raffles and givaways. Season felt done after less than a month for me. Because there wasn’t anything to play for.
Seasons prior, I was still actively playing the week before the season officially ended.
While it was nice for thefirst time to play a spearzon with infinity, it killed the season much earlier for me.
Who’s paying Blizzard anything? What does Blizzard have from whales paying 20k to RMT?
99.999% of the recurring revenue comes from botters who got their bot accounts banned. This is like blizz collecting taxes. currently there are 50k d2r players but around 30k or more are bots.
botters solely exist to find GG gm melee items. these items fetch insane value in secret auction channels.
as a result, botters buy more copies of the game and blizz keeps the servers up. (an average chinese botter has 4000 accounts. there was a botter with 10k account but because due to the slowly dying GM melee scene, they sold their accounts and left)
For games like starcraft and warcraft, they are part of the esports staple. But d2r is NOT an esports game so, you cant compare these.
If dropping 20k in a video game doesn’t hurt you financially then you probably work/worked a lot and grinded so much rl that you probably don’t want to grind extra in a game.
Especially in child hood games where you know exactly which part is the most fun.
I mean 20k for a video game is basically nothing to privat Jets yachts or 1 million dollar cars.
