I’d love to see a few super uniques get the Countess treatment where you have a specific boss to farm for a specific thing. Being able to target farm specific things is a nice change of pace instead of just grinding your chosen level 85 areas over and over. Countess for example drops runes at a very high rate and many people when playing through the game will have a period where they farm countess to get the runes necessary for an early game runeword like stealth, spirit, insight, steel, leaf, black, etc.
Hephasto the Armorer - Will always drop several gems (0-4ish) every kill with them ranging from chipped to perfect and increasing in tier in higher level difficulty games, where he mostly drops flawless and perfect in Hell but only chipped, flawed and normal in normal.
The Smith - Will always drop one socketed item, one ethereal item and one magic-rare. In normal they’re all standard. In nightmare there’s always 2 standard and one exceptional. In Hell there will always be one standard, one exceptional and one elite tier of item. It will mix and match which type item is which tier each kill. So you may get an elite rare item one kill and then an elite socketed the next.
Thresocket - Will always drop 0-3 jewels.
Frozenstein - always drops 0-3 small/large/grand charms. In normal he only drops small charms. In nightmare he only drops small and large. In Hell he will drop all three types.
In each of these cases you have a super unique that you could target farm if say you needed some gems or jewels for a cube recipe or base for a runeword or charms to fill out your inventory, but they wouldn’t drop so much that it would dwarf the returns someone is getting soloing cows or chaos. Just gives you a different method to target some specific type of item you’re after and gives reason to actually kill these uniques other than the one time you do for their respective quests.
While this might sound like a good idea, I do believe it is a bit shortsighted… The problem with making specific monsters drop more of something means more people will be running only those monsters… Countess drops up to a specific rune with her special rune drop, which is up to Ist in Hell difficulty. Her special rune drops are much higher chance than normal monsters. Beyond Ist, her chances of dropping runes are normalized, and she can only drop up to Lo. Meanwhile her minions can drop up to Zod.
When you make specific areas or monsters more appealing to farm, everywhere else becomes more deserted.
Countess dropsup to ist with special rune drop as said above and you want to make it easier to farm 45 life skillers and max dam + AR charms etc from frozenstein? Got it.
I was under the impression that Zod can only drop in act 5?!?
Or are you talking when Tower is terrorized? In that case I was under the impression that runes aren’t affectred by TZ.
(which kinda doesn’t really make sense if I think about it …)
That restriction applies to openables/breakables like chests and barrels. Otherwise if the area level is high enough (area level 78+ for Zod), monsters can drop them.
I like the idea of farming other uniques, but maybe the item drop rate would be too high in your suggestion. At some point the re-rolling recipe wouldn’t matter anymore if you could just target farm way more efficiently. I’d like if they dropped some rare consumable that could re-open the quests to be completed again.
e.g. imbue quest, sockets quest, even hellforge if it drops rare enough to make sense
I mean how much faster would it be farming frozenstein vs clearing cows or chaos in number of charms generated. I really don’t think it would be that crazy. Also they wouldn’t be able to roll 45 hp GCs due to iLevel.
So one hour out of every 30~ there’s a potential to get some higher iLevel GCs. In no way does it devalue people using PGems to reroll GCs for 45 skillers.
diablo 2 is all about random, it’s like, why don’t we have certain afffixes that only spawn in certain areas?? diablo 2 is not that kind of game, it’s random. many things can drop all over the place. i think itemization and drop rates have been working just fine until tz hit. lol.
Every items rolls are still random. From the base that drops to number of sockets to type of charm or gem to the affixes. The randomness of all of that remains. It’s just changing the obtaining items portion of the grind from mass slaughter cows or chaos or a high density L85 area to specifically running/teleporting to underused super unique areas and killing them. Based on the numbers I’m suggesting a typical run of a normal farming area is likely to generate a similar number of these drops over the long run it’s just obtained in a different way.
Why is it so bad now? I guess the best of the best fall a bit more often, but it isn’t like they’re raining griffons. And for all that crap everyone was thinking about 45 life skillers raining from the sky, they’re still rare/expensive AF.
