The race to find a high Death’s fathom, an eth reaper’s toll, and many other items are the entire reason I will play ladder season after season. Why would I make a new character if there’s no incentive to do so? it basically just slows your economy down, so you can’t afford as much…
which is exactly why i don’t play want to play ladder as often… i do like starting from scratch every so often when a ladder resets, but that should be my choice, it short be forced upon me. let the player decide, dont force them to play one way before they literally can’t get certain items without trading, and many of the ladder only rw you will never find outside of jsp or something if you build uses a ladder only rw besides spirit and fort and infinity… GL ever finding one… you’re FORCED to play ladder
It’s a loot-based, trade-based economy. Sure, some players will play SSF, and I typically have one character dedicated to self found even on Bnet.
That being said, in my opinion it is good design to make you feel a little uncomfortable.
Will I be able to make that runeword? I had better spend 2 more hours tonight
Will I be better served selling my Ber while it still has high value this ladder, for a Fathom?
I found a Lo rune and 2 ist, should I trade the 2 ist for a GG grief base, hoping for +34%
If you want to use an odd ball specilized item from ladder thats your choice. Game doesnt make you go a build that requires it. You are making that choice by choosing to want to use said item in your build.
The main big popular ladder RWs will always have trading power in NL.
You could always try if you dont like ladder asking a friend to make you something, and you will trade them XYZ for it.
Removing the specialized items on ladder will do nothing but hurt the ladder player base. Because many people wont roll ladder because they dont need to ever.

It was a terrible mess but it did well. Sales are all that matters on a game without a subscription model. And it sold really well.
The monetization model (RMAH) was a failure and the second expansion got canceled as well.
While D3 undeniable made them a lot of money through the sheer amount of sold copies, I am pretty sure that they expected to make MUCH more money with D3.
OT:
For me personally it won’t make a difference if they make Ladder Only items available in NL and SP.
I play PvE in Ladder, PvP in NL and haven’t touched SP in quite a while.
But for the people who don’t play as much as I do, I can see the issues they have with it and I think that it would be perfectly reasonable to change it.
For D2:R i would agree; remove “ladder only” flag for all items.
Ladder could still have that competitive part, where players compare their bots ( ehm ) luck, skill and knowledge in the race for top class and total positions, but single players should enjoy all content item wise. If that won’t be the case, it would produce miscellaneous mods, or making people modify some local files, as it happened for D2 in the end.
Agree with TE.
Cheers
thats like if you sold gold in a box and inside the box it was poo
Yes. And it was a huge stinky pile of garbage when it released. But that doesn’t matter. All that matters is that they sold millions of these boxes.
And then they had years to put some glitter on the poo so people would consider buying their expansion.
I don’t like the ladder. It separates your characters into 2 groups so you’re almost always playing with your new lesser characters. It makes non-ladder characters feel isolated from player activity. The time spent on new characters doesn’t give experience to your high level characters that are your “favorite” ones. Therefore, you don’t feel powerful until you play alone on non-ladder while everyone else plays ladder because that’s where the good stuff is found. Hardcore ladder makes sense. Everything else should not have a ladder. If you aren’t hardcore, the leader board doesn’t matter.
Why didn’t you use plugY?
Im completely with you here, but if you want all runewords in SP, you will most likely get them via mods, if the release version doesn’t have then in SP.
i know what your getting at but i disagree, even though i hate ladder only exclusives like it’s and runewords, it IS fun to start over every few seasons if u can play from day 1 as there will be many more people in norm and nightmare. and there will be a fresh economy, also nl also had different balance because of old 1.08 and 1.09 items.
so i dot feel there should be a ladder and non-ladder, i just wish that, there weren’t any “exclusives”
that’s the reason i never play single player, because not being able to make insight, screws everything up.
Agree, make all ladder items available in non ladder. Don’t want to play ladder if I
don’t have to especially when they want to reduce the ladder time.
I feel changing this would be a huge mistake.
Ladder teams and team building strategy/execution= dead
Early ladder economic advantage = gone
Fun community building and sharing with mediocre items = gone.
Everyone would just stick to nonladder…the devs got this one right. 100%.
I propose a compromise.
I think ladder on Runewords should stay craftable ONLY on ladders.
After the season ends, that item becomes non-ladder but retains the Runeword activation because it was made by a ladder character.
This way you could incentivize people to play Ladder to farm for these Runewords.
If you saved the runes, and didn’t create a Runeword during the ladder, they will be treated like normal and be unable to activate a Runeword.
Seems like a sane compromise and I may have gotten some terminology wrong, but you get the idea.
Your compromise, though I agree with the sentiment, is not a compromise.
It’s how it already works in legacy, and will work the same in D2R.
Its been a long time since I’ve played. If that isn’t already obvious.
So then what’s the problem? You want Runewords in Non-ladder scenarios, go craft it in Ladder and stop.
Seems to me like all your loot would be worth a lot more for trading purposes than Non-ladder.
What am I missing here?
counter-proposal: ALL rune words are ladder only
