Game is glitchy as [***]

I’m in the Flayer Jungle area. I tag the thing to initiate the fight to get the Gidbin. I kill everyone in the area. No Gidbin drop.

I’m in the Maggot Lair. I drop 6 or 7 Super healing potions on the ground and TP to down to sell some items. I jump back through the portal and potions I dropped cannot be picked up. I can’t even get them via Telekinesis.

I’m in the Marsh. The stacked guys that breath fire, were displayed without the lower level guy rendered. After the killing the top guy who breaths fire the second guy still appears.

There are another 4-5 incidents in the game that I’ve encountered but can’t recall all of the details.

Gidbinn was always a bit weird. After clicking the thing it spawns unique fetish after a while that drops the dagger. Sometimes need to look around for it.

I search that entire village with item labels displayed but no Gidbinn. I’ll have to go back again.

Ah and another glitch. I walked out of A3 town and killed every mob from that point all the way to Flayer Jungle way point without a figurine drop. I had to make a new game and do that route again and finally got it.

I’ve had the figurine drop as late as Travincal before.

I’ve never had to go beyond the Spider Forest before. I did a second run in the Flayer Jungle village and got the Gidbinn. Both of these incidents are first for me.

i did act 1-4 on my new barb just yesterday night and didnt notice any of this. i wouldve had time to see it spamming bash one monster at a time

maybe you got unlucky idk.

gidbin wasn’t a glitch, you missed something. i had one or two situations like that too. figurine dropping can be infuriating, it has always been like that not a glitch just really bad luck. the potion thing i’ve never heard of happening but graphical glitches/issues are common.

I recall always experiencing a ‘delay’ with the Gidbinn thing, the pack of enemies that’s supposed to appear in the vicinity never appeared immediately, ever. I always had the reflex of activating the thing and then just running in the area in circle until the darn pack would finally appear. Sometimes the pack appears fairly quickly, sometimes it takes 15 to 20 seconds. Not sure how it ever worked behind the curtain so to speak but there’s always been a delay for that one.

As for the Maggot Lair… well, it’s the Maggot Lair, the most annoying / dysfunctional to navigate location in the whole game. The pathfinding ‘system’ of the game itself seemingly cannot cope with the actual layout of the Lair. So that was always a problem with map design from the start.

There’s just not enough space in the serpentine corridors, it’s barely just enough for 1 single ‘unit’ (character, enemy, Merc) to walk through, so dropping potions and items in one spot will inevitably cause the game to not “see” some of that in order for you to either being able to pick it up, or it’s just going to disappear on your screen. It might still be “there” for the game, but there’s just no way for YOU to see it, or pick it up, I’ve had that happen long ago but I learned quickly that whenever I went to the Maggot Lair, I would be sure to never drop anything ELSE than just Potions there, just in case I wouldn’t be able to pick them up again; wouldn’t want actual items to disappear outside of Potions.

I cleared the entire village and then ran around with the item labels displayed while searching for the Gidbinn drop. I went into the Flayer Dungeon and back out to check, TP’d to town and back and still nothing. Out of approximately 70+ characters from 1.12 → 1.14 (actually 1.08 or 1.09 but I’ll stick with the previous time frame), I’ve never encountered this Gidbinn glitch, or the delayed drop with the figurine, or the potion problem in the Maggot Lair. It just seems out of place to me.

If you only just purchased it, trust me refund it now or you’ll regret it. It’s been months and Blizzard haven’t fixed so many of the issues, it’s clear they won’t.

The figurine drops from the first unique monster you kill. If you had already killed all uniques in a run and it hadn’t yet dropped (or you somehow missed seeing it drop), you would have to make a new game to find it. Remember, if you miss seeing it drop, which can indeed happen, you have only 30 minutes to return to the location the figuring dropped at as it is unique quality. After that, it disappears and you have no choice but to remake the game because a unique of any kind cannot drop a second time in the same game.

It sometimes takes a few seconds up to a full minute to spawn the fetish that drops the Gidbinn. That’s what makes it such a wonky quest to complete. If you mow down everything in the village before you activate the cauldron that spawns the fetish, you can wait around and wander around that small village area and the unique monster you see will be the fetish you need to kill to get the Gidbinn. Taking out everything before activating the cauldron ensures that you’ll know you have the right monster for the item because it will have spawned after all other monsters have been wiped out, making it the only possible target in the area.

There is one possible situation where you will not see the figurine drop. That is if the unique monster happens to be one of the toads that comes out of the water or a fly currently over the water. If you somehow kill it while it is over the water and not on dry land, it won’t drop the item. The game will have registered that the item was in fact rolled, but because the monster wasn’t over land, the item could not physically drop and there goes your chance at the figurine in that game. The toads work just like the wraiths and succibi do - if you kill them in or over water or empty space, they cannot physically drop items even if they rolled an actual item drop. It’s a bug or omission (likely the latter) in the game code. Diablo 3 fixed that issue early on, but the original devs were gone before the bug could ever get fixed in Diablo 2 and so it remains in D2R.

I always clear the flayer village before activating the item to start the encounter. This is what made it strange to me, when the Gidbinn didn’t drop.
