My son just played D2 and when he pressed Save and Exit, the game crashed. When he logged back on, his ONLINE characters are gone. Does this happen to others?
Has not happened to me, or anyone that i know but i accidently his the [x] button below the character selection screen and it completely deleted my character without any hope for recovery. I was thinking that x was to close the game… spread the word for awareness please. How do i post a new topic?

Sometimes the game will switch to the “offline” characters tab when it crashes, have you checked?
There is but it is
“Are you sure you want to delete the character [y/n]”?
Some games (Grim Dawn comes to mind) ask this if you close the program (ex. This will close the game are you sure?) and people have deleted characters because they’re just going through the motions and not reading

Yes the ONLINE tab is empty of characters.
The same happens here… I played a little and logged off when I came back… gone
My son filed a bug report but I have no idea what Blizz does with those or if it’s a goner.
my charather just completely disapeared too… lvl 67 sorc, was playing with my friend earlier, when out to do groceries, came back, logging in back to play with my friend and gone… and no, i didnt press the delete character button by msitake or anything… just pressed escape key and then save and exit like usual
My 78 Sorc is gone as well after logging off earlier and getting back on to see her missing. 100% sure I didn’t delete her myself.

Some people have had success creating a new character to force, basically, a refresh of the character list from the server.
Try that but… ehhh… this is an issue that has happened to people and a big issue if you get hit by it obviously.
This just happened to my brother. Level 70 hammerdin with decent gear gone… Nothing in online or offline tab. Restarted client and also created a new character. No dice…
Not cool Blizzard this needs to be fixed ASAP!
Same just happen to me man, blizzard doesnt seem to concerned about it… Why should they we already paid the 45$…
