Game crashes with too many effects on screen

You fiddled with PC hardware for decades? Ok. Then why do i get Windows XP vibes from your “swap GPU” story? Been there, done that a long time ago. A memory from a distant past.

Today swapping a GPU is a matter of minutes and not some “extended periods of time”, no matter how you slice it. It also does not matter what brand the new card is. Since Windows 10 hardware swaps are not rocket science or open heart surgery anymore. Power PC off, open it, remove GPU A power, remove the card, insert GPU B, connect power to the card, close and power up the PC, wait for Windows to start up, run Windows Update to install the needed driver and Done!

If you don’t plan to swap your old card back in you can remove the driver of the old card for housekeeping. Windows won’t load that driver anyway while another card is present and just ignores it. Then you can fine tune i.e. update to specific brand driver, set resolution, frame rate, driver settings but that’s all optional.

FYI:
I just did such a swap with a leftover HD 6870 from my brothers PC upgrade. Card swap took like 5 minutes, driver install another 5 and the system was up. Less demanding stuff worked, but D2R refused the cardt due to only 1 GB VRAM which i didn’t knew until canyourunit confirmed it. Nevermind. Swapped cards back (again 5 minutes), booted up and everything was back to normal. No driver reinstall, no redo of settings, nothing. I’d say 15 minutes for a GPU roundtrip is neither an extended period of time or even an ordeal.

err … you claim a serious crash bug other PC players do not see? Wouldn’t such an obvious crash bug be reported like crazy? I don’t see this here, sorry. Going by this forum you are the only PC player with it. Any other crash reports are from PS4 and Nintendo players and any other PC reports are just about lag which is something also not every players sees. On top of that no other player has reported repeated screen flicker like you did. This alone is a clear warning sign of an overburdened video card.

BUT …
since you do not plan to verify your claim although you say you got other/faster cards (x) there is in fact no point in continuing this.
(x): need to have 2 GB VRAM or the game won’t start

Sigh … Really? Putting words in others mouth? At best i said “can’t run D2R properly” which is a “not good” and totally unlike “not”.

I’m done with this pointless “discussion”.

I COULD explain at length why 90% of your commentary is some combination of “misleading” and “flat out false” (for example : “what if the drivers for a ‘replacement’ card don’t support the required versions of DirectX” or “what if the PCs involved, are dual-booted, e.g. Linux and Window$, so now I’m changing the video drivers for TWO not ONE operating systems”)… but I have better things to do with my time.

Have a nice day.

Why keep defunct hardware/software?

Oh, trying to make things complicated?
(Ever considered VM’s?)

D2R runs on Windows, not Penguin.
Besides, Penguin won’t notice a change unless you boot it with the wrong card.
Thus i don’t care.

Got more of these funny excuses?

In my last message I thought that I made it clear that I have no interest in prolonging this “dialogue” any further.

In particular I have no interest in reading any more of the juvenile, ad hominem taunts that you seem to enjoy sending to other D2R players in this Forum.

Have a nice day. Goodbye.

Well then … at least start you own thread about your “issue”. This way Blizzard might ckeck on it since you highjacked this thread from SkillsBeyond who posted a completly different topic and matter.

I promise i will NOT post there!
Everything I could have said / suggested is already here.
