Hey,
Anyone else than me having truble with game crash at baal throne (where he spawn his minions). 1 or 3 times my game insta crashes at some point doing my “solo baal runs”. My game never crashes anywhere but there. It feels so frustrating when I want to kill baal repetitive but only can do so 2/3 times without this “instant crash”
Funny enough my char never dies on these crashes (that it would normal if the game crash). I’m not getting any error msg or anything. The game is just gone and I have to reopen the game from launcher. It has been going on for some days now and today I updated all my drivers to see if this would change anything. It didn’t.
Hope someone have an idea to a solution.
Thanks.

try doing it in old mode and see what happens.

Usually this is a result of corrupted game file(s). The first thing you should attempt is a scan and repair of the D2R installation. If this fails to resolve the issue, a full uninstall and reinstall of the game may be necessary.
Additionally, if you have not done so yet, you should configure the Battle.net desktop app (a.k.a. “the launcher”) to close itself upon launching a game. You can do so by launching the Battle.net app, clicking the Battle.net icon in the upper left corner of the main window and selecting Settings, then in the App pane, select Exit Battle.net completely in the On game launch pulldown menu.
It cannot be stressed enough that you should never click the Play button during an installation. Always, always let the installation and/or patching finish before clicking Play, or else you risk corrupting one or more of the game’s files. Blizzard’s CASC filesystem for their modern games does not take kindly to downloading while a game is running. Patience is a virtue here.
If the above set of troubleshooting steps does not resolve the issue for you, make a post in the technical support forum and paste a DxDiag report into your post so we can better diagnose the potential issues.

Thank you for your comments.
I’ve been trying to run it on the old graph. As soon as i enter the baal throne room, i change to old style. As an experiement I’ve tried to switch back to the new graph. again and the crashes started again. When I’m in the throne room (and only there) I’ve noticed before crashes that there were apearing some random black spots on the screen. Like there is something of the grahpics being currupt. This will only appear in the new style/graphics.
Would this be a result as the currupt game files?
I haven’t been able to find a solution yet so I almost gave up. I’ve tried the above suggestions but the only thing that has worked is to enter the old graphics when i enter the throne room.
I would like to know if its a bug or something local to my game files/computer thing.
Thank you.

deactivate dlss and try again
maybe the scripts for your bot are corrupt?
not funny … OP is having a real problem with the game and a Troll is not asked for or helpful.

You may have a SDRAM problem.
If you keep having same result as before then shut down your pc and move your memory on mother board around.
Either this fixes you issue or you will get crashes with you’re OS and then you’ll know you have memory problems for sure.
what is “dlss” if you could kindly explain that?
what do u have for a grafikcard`?
if u have one of these;
Which graphics cards support DLSS?
GeForce RTX 2060.
GeForce RTX 2060 Super.
GeForce RTX 2070.
GeForce RTX 2070 Super.
GeForce RTX 2080.
GeForce RTX 2080 Super.
GeForce RTX 2080 Ti.
Nvidia TITAN RTX.
or one of the new rtx 3000 series
go to videosettings in diablo and check nvidia dlss ,
there u can choise some options and u can deactivate it
i did it also, had some shenk crashes and in throne room
no crashes anymore

You haven’t stated what you’ve done for troubleshooting steps. I gave you the primary solution that will solve the location specific crashing in most cases. Simply turning one set of graphics off doesn’t necessarily mean crashing will stop because both graphics files are loaded and running, but only one is displayed. That’s how you’re able to switch back and forth without any delays or client restarts.
What have you done for troubleshooting so far, and what are your system specs?
I’ve made the changes you suggested before (exept reinstalling the game - maybe I should try that) I’m now running the game with the launcher closed as suggested. I’ve also tried and “repair” the game files.
I’ve now as joaachteins3 suggested turned the “nvidia dlss” to “OFF” (i have the 2070 super card with updated drivers)
I will try and run more baal runs and if it keeps crashing I will have to uninstall and reinstall. Do you have a suggestion how to make a clean installation? Is it enough to “uninstall” from launcher? I am thinking that might not remove all files. Often when we unstall games or programs a lot of files is being kept on the drive. Would that also be the case here you think?
Edit: Sorry i forgot the spec. I’m running the 2070 super as written before with the Ryzen 7 5800X 64gb ddr4 ram, windows 10pro.
Turn lighting quality down to low. I was hitting Baal throne room crashes as well and that seemed to help. Maybe a red herring who knows but so far I’ve been ok… /*knock on wood */

Thank you. I will try this too. I have been running everything on the highest graphic settings. The “funny” thing is that I haven’t had any problems untill a few days ago. I’ve been running this for many month without any problems. I did actualy change from cold sorc to lightning, so perhaps it makes sence what you are saying here (about the lightning). Maybe the flashing lihgtning is crashing the game?
The easiest way to do a reinstall is just to go into the Diablo 2 Resurrected folder and delete the topmost \Data folder. That is what contains the game files. If you do that and then open the Battle.net app you can then just click “Update” or “Install” (whichever appears) and get a fresh set of game files.
Special Note: If you have the PTR or Beta still installed you must delete those first before doing the above reinstall steps or else the Battle.net app will just copy files from the BTR/PTR installation, which may have corrupt files in them. When doing a reinstall, all PTR and BTR installations must be deleted first.
My FOH pally was hitting it in Baals minions (usually 3rd wave) quite a bit. My BHammer one was not. So it definitely felt related to the lighting. In any case, changing some graphics settings down a bit doesn’t hurt the game much visually so…
For reference I’ve run on several machines, from a 1080, 1080ti, 2080, an 3080 (my main laptop has a 3080 in it and was the one hitting the crashes the most with my FOH pally).

Mine used to do that, turned out it was because of fortitude on a merc on wave 2, when bunch of skeletons hit merc with frostbolts and shiver armor procs frostbolts back at them!
I turned my graphics down from ultra to low and no longer have crashes in throne

Thank you. I’ve done that and gonna try and run some more baal runs to see if the issue is fixed. With all the steps taken the odds seem pretty good.
The graphics are tuned down a bit, the launcher closes upon launching the game and I’ve changed some of the other suggested settings aswell.
Its “funny” to see several of the same issues apearing. I for once also got the fortitude on my merc as Pycckue is writing about. Perhaps it is something more graphic than it is in the game files? For me personal it is extreemly frustrating not to know what causes the crashes in the first place. It does seem local to my computer and nothing to do with the servers (at least that’s something).
I will make an update later after work to see if things have gone better.
