Fortitude runeword and chilling armor crashes

Fortitude have 20% chance to cast chilling armor when struck. Multiple chilling armor projectiles (ice bolts) cause graphics artefacts, slows and crushing the game. Fix pls =3

I can confirm this issue, my game constantly crashes because of this.

my game just crashes from walking in town, like every 2-3 games. Its ridiculous.

All my drivers are up to date.

Bumping… this is happening to me also.

Repro steps…

  1. Put fortitude on merc
  2. Fight act 5 succubus in worldstone keep
  3. Once chilling armor procs in rapid succession from succubus, black artifacts will begin to appear as they hit the succubus from the merc.
  4. If you keep playing, game will crash to desktop 100% of the time in next 1-5 mins with nvidia driver not responding and recovered error in event manager.
  5. If you fight act 4 mage knights, game will crash to desktop shortly after but not as frequently as the succubus. The game will also crash during baal stage 2 since alot of ranged attacks happen on the merc to cause the fortitude FX to proc.
  6. Changing VFX lighting quality from ultra to high will reduce the crash but not completely eliminate it.
  7. If you switch merc armor off of fortitude to something else so the chilling armor effect doesn’t proc, no crashing occurs at all.
  8. This can cause people to think their graphics card is going bad due to the artifacts and crashing when its really the D2R causing the crashing. This needs to be fixed.

As of August 6th, 2022, this problem is STILL HERE. The Fortitude is crashing my game in certain areas, primarily the 2nd and 3rd waves of Baal’s minions in Hell difficulty.

Is Blizzard ever going to fix this?!

This is an extremely annoying bug. Without that armor equipped the game runs very smoothly and crash free. With Fortitude runeword armor on, artifacts and many crashes. This armor is BiS for my character. This bug has been ongoing for over a year, at least. Why is this still a bug? Please fix it. Or just remove the chilling armor effect. Do something!!!

Same bug here, (i reported it) i only crash in front of baal, fighting his minions with my mercenary fortitude. Playing in legacy mod “solve” it.

Bumping this because it still hasn’t been fixed.

I get the same artefacts, FPS drops and game crashes to desktop. Fortitude is totally unusable on my paly since I get hit so many times.

Thought my old 1080ti was on the fritz when I started seeing this playing through a5 and was flipping all kinds of video options back down and back up. 2025 and obviously it doesn’t matter to them. Am I the only one currently wanting Fortitude on my merc??

yep it just happened to me too, its not just fort chilling armor that does it. I was playing single player today and it bugged out all of d2r. was doing normal baal run on single player and after the 3rd minion wave everything slowed down and the game is very jumpy and laggy. i was using hydra and had chilling armor on and now the game is completely unplayable.
