This is a quite controversial opinion perhaps, but
I love D2, its one of my favorite games and I think its by far the best in the series. I have played it since release and blablabla, im a fan.
What I still think is a huge mistake is have one class that is so much more powerful at the main gaimeplay loop than all other classes. Whatever you want to farm, 95% of the cases, its sorceress that is the go-to choice. There are for sure many fun sorc builds, but, in the end its just one class. I also don’t want to remove the option to teleport, which in itself is a very fun ability.
So, what can be done without severely impacting how each class works? Make teleport a spell that all classes can utilize once hell is complete (or perhaps level 80 is achieved or something). This could also be a unique charm, that might have a counterpart with high movement speed but you could only choose one and you get them quite easily in hell.
Anyway, i just want to highlight ways to make ALL classes viable at endgame and not just one out of seven.
And no, Enigma is not an option unless you play like crazy or is extremely lucky, this change is for even the first char you create on the ladder and not the number 6th.
Allowing every class to have the Teleport skill would be a major change to core gameplay. And a major thematic change to six of the seven classes. A game breaker, a narrative breaker. Look at the difference Enigma (with just +1 Teleport oskill) already adds to the game.
I personally feel the game would be ruined by this change. I personally think Enigma already ruins the game. Other classes without Teleport (and without Enigma) are already perfectly viable and enjoyable if you know how to play the game. Even sorcs without Teleport are viable (not that many would actually choose to play this way, but it would still be viable). By “viable” I mean “you can still survive and you can still kill stuff efficiently”, not “you or your bot can mindlessly spamclick while ignoring movement, terrain, positioning, and the entire map”. Teleport is (or should be) a luxury, not a necessity.
This change is the sort of thing which falls entirely within modding territory.
I know it would be a major change to core gameplay, that it why it would like to be active for just one season. And i dont agree with “perfectly viable” if I know how to play the game, there is not other class that can come close to farming bosses, which is what the endgame currently looks like. You ignore how most of the community plays the game currently by just saying they are bots, how many of your friends that play D2R start by creating a sorc each season? I would say 95% of the people I know that play this game does it this way, that is what i would like to get at.
The game is ready for a big change, why not try it?
