Ok never played diablo 2 until now… can someone tell me how to deactivate a skill? Example… my paladin activated his healing ability that costs 1 mana a second (gone in the blink of an eye)… but i can not figure out how to turn the darn thing off!!!

You just need to switch the skill to something else. Usually use a hot key to switch quickly
but isnt that also another skill at times that is draining mana?.. I can’t just shut off a skill until needed so I’m not draining mana?.. I feel like i’m missing something simple
Prayer is an aura, which is always active as long as it’s selected. Prayer drains mana while active in exchange for healing you over time.

Prayer is the only aura that drains mana. Changing it to anything else will not have any downsides.

Ok cool… so I have to change it to an activation skill to stop the mana drain… (i don’t have one right now so I guess I can’t just simply turn it off?)

You can switch to the basic attack.
Consider getting a leveling guide like on maxroll.gg website. Many skills don’t work well early game and can result in frustration from bad skill points distribution. Also good items from loot are very rare so it will guide you how to craft strong runewords.
If you have quick keys enabled, you might have trouble switching skills. Just click on the skill with the mouse and switch it manually.
Using quick keys you can turn on an aura, but I don’t think you can turn it off.
Are you playing with k&m or controller…it is slightly different…
With k&m, merely changing your skill on the right side to any other spell, normal attack, or another aura and it will get rid of whatever aura you had previously.
With controller you must choose another aura to stop your current aura and get something else, OR you choose the same aura that you have activated which will then deactivate your aura and leave you with nothing left.
This is really a low level problem…
K&M… I tried switching to normal Attack and nothing happens… I know it’s early in the game but literally nothing I do gets rid of it… Maybe a glitch?
No glitch… you have two spells slots, you are to change your right hand slot from Prayer to anything else… seeing that you are new, I doubt you have quickcast on but I don’t see how it would cause this problem.
