I’ve played the game now for a few days on my Series X and I must say I’m very impressed with the visuals! I’m running this game in 4k at 60fps and the game looks amazing on my new TV. It’s a blast playing this game again!
That said, do have some issues I’d like to see addressed.
Lack of a loot filter.
- I like watching loot pop as much as the next guy, but a customizable loot filter would be awesome. Recent ARPGs like POE and Grim Dawn have all adopted this feature, and it’s become a mainstay of the genre. Even a very basic one would be a nice addition to the game.
Option to disable quests from lighting up the icon that also tells me I have unspent stat/skill points.
- This one has tricked me more times than I’d like to admit.
Option to toggle the automap between corner and fullscreen modes.
- I like having the automap in the top right corner, I don’t like going into the options menu to change it to full screen when i’m trying to find out where the hell I’m supposed to go. Like the in the jungle in Act 3, or that damnable maggot lair.
Having an option to toggle the automap between OFF → CORNER → FULLSCREEN → OFF would be GREAT. Or even better, Just CORNER → FULLSCREEN (I mean when do you NOT have that map on anyway). It would also be nice if you could set the opacity settings for FULLSCREEN and CORNER modes individually.
And last (the big one), the auto sorting is not good. Moving items around the inventory grid with a controller is a pain, and in Diablo 2 you’re ALWAYS shuffling things around. This is not a problem with Mouse & Keyboard but this game does not support that on consoles from what I’ve gathered. Also, the auto sort almost always puts things horizontally, not vertically, so if you’re trying to pick up a staff or some other large piece of gear then you always have to move things around anyway, even after auto sorting.
Here are some suggestions that would alleviate these issues.
- Being able to click the sort button twice to change the bias between vertical and horizontal sorting.
- There should be an option for a fully automatic sorting mode, which automatically shuffles your inventory around to make room for what you’re trying to pick up.
- Abstract the whole inventory system with a menu. Your character has a total of 40 inventory slots, and your inventory is empty You have 40/40 slots. You pick up a piece of armor and takes 6 slots and now you have 34/40 inventory slots available. So you’d still have the same size inventory, BUT the need to manually move items around with a controller is eliminated altogether. This would, naturally, be a big change and would require a lot of development time, but for the console version of D2R it makes a lot of sense.
Hope you get this. The game rocks!
